it seems the covenant have joined instagram, cause theyre using a hell of a lot of filters.
But seriously, in an attempt to make the aliens sound more… well, alien, bungie in Reach then 343 in Halo 4 decided to put a voice filter over the grunts and elites. now on a dehumanized enemy, like a jackal, a hunter or the flood then yeah, go for it. but after haviing grunts yell at me in that familiar, high pitched, kinda cute voice ‘run! it’s the demon!’ for years, have that voice turned into a garbbled synthetic mess annoys me. it makes them more boring to fight. same with the elites, their funny Arnold Schwazenegger parody has turned into deep boring alien voices due to this voice filter and the fact that they no longer speak english. it should be one or the other, not a combo of a filter and no english. i understand in reach that the covenant were supposed to be scary and stuff for obvious reasons, but halo 4 is a continuation of the trilogy, NOT reach. it should take a slightly similar tone. to add insult to this, the arbiter heard speaking in the trailer has no filter. that’s just jarring, to hear the elites go between filtered voices and non filtered ones. im sure im not the only one who thinks this.
Note: the filters are not completely prominent in elites always, and this is also due to a different direction with the voice acting. this post mainly concerns grunts but i kinda generalised it to elites a little

I’d love the Covenant to speak English again as well, at least just to threaten us. A trademark of the Grunts is the humor that comes from fighting them, and that should always be the case in my opinion.
I hope the option for them to speak English is a new skull. I miss the old Covenant, the ones that said things in English for no reason, and making the IWHBYD skull actually useful and hilarious.

I AGREE SO MUCH YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. If I’m playing the campaign through the first time, I don’t want to be distracted from an epic moment by a sleeping grunt talking about his grandmother’s gas problem.
Put the funny lines on IWHBYD only, and everyone’s happy.
