They could be talking about the gun formerly known as the Assault Carbine. A weapon that was used before but avoided by some. It was known as a depleter not a finisher but this new weapon is a finisher, not a depleter according to the not so recent MP Sparkast.
So i am guessing…Plasma Rifle as the Repeater was a finisher.
Finisher: Damages health more than shields
Depleter : Drains shields faster than health.
I’d love to see a beffier Plasma Repeater. If it had the accuracy of Reach’s Plasma Rifle it’s be great.

I have a feeling it may be the Plasma Repeater. As much as it didn’t replace the Plasma Rifle in our hearts, the Plasma Repeater was an excellent weapon (though it could have been a bit more powerful) and it would be great to see it return.
Duplicating the weapons for humans and covenant is something they want to avoid i think. At least the did with reach.
If it is good and not forgotten like the plot of a Call of Duty game Oh edgy! I will welcome it. Would be nice to start with a Cov weapon!

I think the new Covie Assault Rifle will be a plasma rifle and Repeater fusion. Two-handed and powerful, meant for the assault role, moreso than the Plasma Rifle was

Sounds like the Plasma Repeater which is pretty much the same gun as the Plasma Rifle. They could at least give it a better name.

We haven’t had a truly magnificent automatic plasma weapon since the first halo game.
Even though my hopes may be painfully crushed I am looking forward to it, especially since 343 has been really trying to sell that they have good weapon balance this time around

I think they will probably just take the plasma repeater model for it or just make a completely new one.

And yes, It sounds like 343i merged the Plasma Rifle (in terms of effectiveness…well that it once had) and the Repeater (in terms of firing rate).
But since the gun hasn’t been officially announced by 343i yet, it means it was either:
)The concept sounds as if we finally get a Plasma weapon that is potentially useful for once. So I’m looking forward to what it turns out to be.
The beam rifle and the plasma rifle should definetly make a comeback…
