So I’ve played a little bit of the beta so far and one odd the thing I noticed is that the controls feel very confusing. By the way, I play on Recon, which is probably as close to normal halo controls as you can get.
I don’t know why I feel this way. I’m always confused between which button is thrust and which is sprint (both of which I don’t really like by the way). It might also have to do with the new controls for gliding in the air, ground pounding, and sliding. They all seem like it take multiple buttons to execute and it feels difficult for me to memorize and do these things.
I use the “Halo 4” control scheme, which was first used in Reach and I have loved ever since. It works just the same in Halo 5, so I haven’t had any problems with it. I really like RB melee.
But one of the problems is that crouch is attached to the ground pound, so it gets confusing. I believe Josh Holmes already tweeted that they were going to separate the two functions so crouch jumps could still be possible, but I don’t have a source.
So hopefully we’ll get mote finely tuned controls in the final.

Yeah cause I think recon is the same as halo 4, which I was fine with. I guess its just the combinations that confuse me.
If they are going to move to COD controls, I wish they’d offer an option to move melee to B button and crouch to right-thumbstick. This is COD controls with “Tactical” buttons.
I used the H4 control layout, but I’m pretty sure that the only way I could even get a kill in this beta would be if 343 repurposed the right trigger as the “Kills Everything Within 100 Yards Automatically, No Questions Asked” button. Even then I would probably find a way to mess it up.
