The competitive scene is killing H5's potential

When Halo 5 first released we were promised 5 game modes at launch. All of these game modes were extremely competitive with Warzone being the tide over till social playlists were implemented. BTB was our first unranked playlist in Halo 5 with Forge. Then Grifball came in February with Infection coming in Memories of Reach.

Now there is talk of removing Grifball because of low population according to the MP designers. Why the hell is that a thing? Why does the casual community need to be pushed to the wayside yet again to make room for the competitive scene that very much killed this game to begin with. You can argue that the competitive scene is keeping Halo alive but the harsh reality is that if that were true then there wouldn’t be a need to take out Grifball in the first place.

Do you know why the population got so low? It was because of the utter lack of true, non-slayer based social playlists that were in the game at launch. Warzone is fun, for about 5 matches, then you get bored and want to play something else and if you’re anything like the 90% of the playerbase that this game didn’t cater to then you were most likely out of luck until February when Grifball finally dropped, and yet now we are seemingly going back to square one because 343i wants to put Grifball into the rotation rather than a permanent playlist. What’s the deal?

I do not play a whole lot of Grifball personally, but I know that it is a key gametype with the casual community, so why does the community have to bend over and take it because the population is low when it was proven that months with a non-slayer based gametype like Grifball or Infection was killing the community. The Slayer gametype can be put into Team Arena if population is that much of an issue, but giving the backhand to the casual community yet again will not do the current population any favors 343i.

This is from 3rd party information, but supposedly 343 “clarified” it was being temporarily removed for fixes? Idk, sounds sketch to me.

In the stream for MoR they said that it was due to low population. The whole “it’s for fixes” thing was damage control most likely.

343 knows what they are doing.
if you don’t like it then buy out 343 and run it the way you want to. easy fix.

Removing one of the few non-slayer based gamemodes that this game has will not help the population one bit. If they think that removing the playlist will help that then no, they do not know what they are doing.

I agree fully. They say the Grifball population was low? This will make it lower.

ow they really know what their doing hey … cus the campaign was so amazing that the whole community loves it don’t kind your self with crap like that 343 have made plenty of stupid choices and a good amount of good choices… but to say they know what their doing is stupid… i don’t think any game developer company really knows what there doing on a whole their only really guessing and some hit home more than others cus even with all their focus groups they still don’t really know how their community’s will react some time it will be a good reaction add sometimes its bad … but doing stuff that will obviously annoy the community is stupid like removing griffball because low population to improve it okay but what about 343 beloved competitive modes like ffa and brake out that also have low population why are they not being removed and refined because its a staple mode but if fine cus griffball is a casual mode right no one really care about it right… what lies griffball has a big community and to take it out just because infection is now here is stupid … here’s an idea 343i you have all these social modes like super fiesta and griffball and your rocket slayer and more why not put about 5 really popular one into a mode like team arena where its a group of different modes in one playlist…social arena… why are you not doing this and when you have a new social mode that’s not so crazy like infection where it would get it own playlist you can just take out the oldest or least liked mode for the 5 or so in it this way you wont have to force out any mode the community may like it can be added in to social arena and you can put in and out your social weekend mode having the mode stay for longer if liked and also moving and changing the modes … i’m sure this isn’t to hard 343i so what have you not done this or something similar

343, seriously, after some intense games people like to chill in parties and talk with each other. I know my squad usually jumps on grifball for an hour before we jump off. It you take that away sll you’ll be doing is not giving people that playlist to relax and instead of staying that extra time, people will just get off the game.

Personally I don’t see why people play this game if they don’t like to play arena matchmaking (Arena, Slayer etc.). Warzone is boring as -Yoink- and grifball, infection, and other playlists like it are stupid. I always see people -Yoinking!- on these forums about redundant playlists and it makes me laugh.

Why don’t they just keep it in then update it with their fixes when they’re finished tweaking it? I don’t see why they have to remove it just for fixes.

343 Industries: We dont add game modes, We remove Them! “That guys getting a raise” Says the CEO of 343

It’s not that we don’t like to play arena modes, but when the majority of the arena modes are competitive it doesn’t make sense to take out the few social gamemodes in there.

They’re not removing it for fixes, they’re taking it out and putting it in the rotation, as in once every 3 weeks, because the small population that this game has isn’t playing their precious competitive gamemodes.

Halo 5’s population isn’t the doing that bad though. It’s currently at #10.

That is most likely due to Memories of Reach just releasing. A week or two later we will see the same population dip that brought this topic of discussion about.

I like playing the competitive modes
in the game but I don’t actually play competitively in any of them except breakout and I don’t play that very often. I would like to see casual modes be non-rotational playlists and some casual modes of Breakout, Assault, SWAT, etc.
I would hate to see the Grifball playlist removed because it is the only other Arena mode I play competitively in because it so different from every other mode in the game and doesn’t get stale.
It should stay a permanent playlist along with Infection/Classic(no weapon pickups), Fiesta/Super Fiesta, FFA/Rockets/SWAT, and Snipers/Shotty Snipers, because why have these modes if they are only playable for a week and never used again except in Custom Games.

Halo’s silly gametypes (Action Sack, Infection, Custom Games) were the reason I enjoyed Halo more than other shooters. After playing competitive slayer and objective matches before my friends and I get bored from repetition we go and unwind in the silly playlists then switch to competitive again.

We used to play regularly on one Halo game for over a year, but with Halo 5 it quickly grew boring since all the playlists were either competitive or warzone, and we stopped playing after a month and moved on to other games.

If they remove it for a long time I will cry all day and all night until it gets put back

Removing more playlists, as if the current choice of playlists is exhaustive… I hope they don’t remove it because it’s my favourite social playlist. If there weren’t so many people put off by bans for a few betrayals or suiciding because of the odd time the initial spawning causes you to suidide, then population may not have dropped so much (if it even did). I don’t play it nearly as much because of these issues, particularly the betrayal booting. What do they expect when they’ve left these issues unattended to for so long?!

Yeah this is what sounded like bull -Yoink- to me. If they want to fix forge, they just have to update it, not remove it entirely. And if they want to add Maps to btb and introduce big fixes every month it’s not like the whole game goes down to make way for that. It sounds like damage control, and I really hope the listen to community on this one.
