Hey guys.
I’m a vet of Halo 2 & 3 competitive gaming, sort of lost interest with Reach & 4… Friends and I weren’t feeling the competitive feel that 2 & 3 had, I don’t know if i’m the only one… But i REALLY Miss the MLG Gametypes in Halo 2 (hard to remember i was like 17 at the time). Snipers, MLG Pro(i think it was called) even the ranking system & seeing those cool 4 red arrows when you hit level 40, or the Moon at 48… Whatever, completely not even what i wanted to discuss.
Really the idea behind this thread is some feedback on how you feel competitive gaming will go with this game… Will we still see Lockout Strats with straight BR Battles(head i miss the double shot RRX) Sanctuary strats & the like. If you were very into competitive gaming as i was you’ll understand most of what i mean… Thanks!
I think it will go fine. Visible ranking is back. 4v4 arena style Halo is back. Sprint has been overhauled to balance better with Halo’s TTK (Some would disagree with me). Power weapons spawn in static locations. Equal starts. Pro-level weapon timers are available to all players, which will increase the level of competition and strategy needed to secure power weapons.
But “competitive” is a subjective term. The very nature of the game is competitive, by the simple fact that the game will resolve with a winner or looser. How much people invest into that competition is yet to be seen. But I think at the very least, visible ranks will help drive a base level of incentive to compete. But… like Halo 2 and 3 of old, it will also drive people to cheat, exploit, and not play as a good sport.
The beta had ranking and it was competitive. Highest rank is Pro which is obtained by being the top 200 in Semi-Pro. The game is bringing back competitive unlike what Halo 4 did. Clambering and thrusting change the gameplay, also no autoaim, but more bullet magnetism change the gunplay. Another cool thing is that it now shows your rank in each playlist when you look at a service record. So glad that ranks are in unlike Halo 4 where people boasted who had the best pubstomping KDA.
I prefer the Halo Reach ranking system with a little Street Fighter 4 thrown in. 2 rankings for each player, one that rewards you for EVERYTHING including games played (win/loss) and one that is like Halo 3, where its strict and only wins help boost it.

Well unlike most players on the forum, i don’t have a Xbox one yet. After Halo Reach i ventured into PC Games until now. Not having an Xbox One furthermore leads to not participating in the H5 beta, most of what i do know about the game stems from these forums and videos. Back to the competitive topic, i miss the H2 and H3 style of having Final Boss and Carbon pitted against each other, those were great memories, and now other even better teams take their place only to continue the legacy. I remember being sponsored and going to the MLG Circuit around the country to compete and i’m just hoping for something similar in that field.

“Competitive” is a subjective term correct, Halo pitted against any other shooter can and will be named Competitive, I should regress… By Competitive i meant more along the terms of “Competition” and team/MLG/esport sponsored events & the like.
Personally, I’d like a leveling up system like Reach’s where you earn EXP or cR for finishing daily challenges, campaign missions, etc. along with a skill-based rank for multiplayer.
It’s looking pretty good so far, though I admit that my soul took some getting used to seeing assault rifles used by professional teams.
