First of all, to all those hard core competetive gamers out there, please do not be disrespectful to the casual gamer, or even those who may be a little less skilled. It is embarassing.
While a lot of people are looking at recent rumors with raised eyebrows to say the least, i think what we are looking for most in Halo 4, is a game where the more skilled person comes out ahead more often than not.
Even more so than that is something to fight for. Among Halo players, rank used to be prestige. In Halo two seeing the red outline around the 40 was enough to make me take people seriously. In Halo three it was all about the 50, or achieving the highest rank you could. The point is, games felt like they mattered. Where i feel Reach faltered was in the Arena, the rank was individual instead of team based, so people fought to better their own statistics instead of working towards a victory for the team. Whether one person carries a team or one person crashes a team, a team should still be a team. You win as a team, you lose as a team. In Reach, rank shows little indication of a persons skill.
Reach also got into the credit based rank system. I cant remember the last time getting points for effort was actually satisfying. I am looking more for the experience that makes you leap out of your chair a yelling with glee because you made that clutch play to help your team win 50-49. For godness sake at least give me a reason to sit up. Nowadays, whether its more credits or less credits… who really gives a … … poop.
Please 343, give me a reason to care and a level playing field to do it on, and i promise i will.
And for you Reach fans out there, i am sorry but credits to unlock armor that i cant see anyway because it is a FIRST person shooter does not count as something worth fighting for.
Unfortunately, in the world we live in, where there is something worth fighting for, there will be people cheating to get it. Instead of removing the prize, whether it be a 50 or some other sort of skill based rank, i think you should simply put a little more effort into the banhammer.
Another plus to it, the farther you go, the harder it gets, which appeals to every skill level.
Thughts on what helped get the adrenaline pumping in Halo 2 & 3, what we would like to see in Halo 4, and what made Reach little more than a stoners delight?
