The reason for me being a fan since 06 and competeing, as the games evolved, they became less fun within each installment. This is just my opinon of course. I understand its hard to keep evolveing as a game, to try and bring new content with each tittle, but while they achieved that goal, I believe it caused them to focus on too many things at once, instead of focusing on what made it a success to begin with, a FPS. For me and for 90% of the people that I know, we go and wait for the midnight launch just hoping that this game will be better than the last. And of course, after about a week, people start to turn their games back. I just realy hope H4 is fun to play again.
My main gripes stem from the sub-par character development, the lack of emotion when one of their own died, ToTS, the lack of actually seeing the Fall of Reach, couple MM features and FF 2.0.

Suppose its his opinion. Though IMO Reach features so many features that anything under a 20 should be out of the question. Once again IMO…

In my opinion, Reach Firefight is far worse than ODST Firefight, the Reach Campaign is far worse than the other Campaigns, Theater isn’t very different from Halo 3’s, Matchmaking isn’t much better, Custom Games are worse, and Forge is only slightly improved. It’s quality, not quantity that matters.

-frustrating Multiplayer
-the campaign was a joke
-the characters were pretty much boring
-The beginning was a total failure
-firefight was boring
-Reachs MP Maps suck
-Forgeworld maps suck even more
-AA’s break the whole sense of map control and individual skill, especially Armor Lock and Jet pack

Leading up to the release of Reach, I grew very excited about many things. The characters, weapons, enemies, locations and armor abilities all looked like they were going to be incredible. The idea of flying a spaceship in battle was one that filled me with joy. When the game finally came out I played through the campaign, explored the multiplayer, delved into forge and shot may way through firefight. Until I grew board. In terms of campaign, we had been promised a more human story, one which would be more character based. When I played through the campaign for the first time I found myself part of a squad made up of boring cliches. The characters bored me, the gameplay didn’t feel as though it had the same variety and the levels seemed dull compared to previous entries. The multiplayer maps were dull, they were the same locations from the campaign and as such just bored me far too quickly. Firefight was still fun but somehow I found myself getting tired of it much faster than I did in ODST. The grenade launcher and target locator were just plain disappointing. The AAs that had seemed like they would be a joy to use simply weren’t. The games saving grace was Forge. While not as intricate as say, Far Cry 2s map creator, it was a huge step up from Halo 3 and a joy for me to use.
At that point in time my score probably would have been 50/100. Then I didn’t touch the game for nearly a year. When I found myself with more free time I delved back into things. I found that things like level design were still uninspired the color palette was dull and like any other FPS out there. But the campaign’s story and characters weren’t so bad anymore. As I played through I picked up on many of the character’s subtleties, there was more to them then it had first seemed. They may not have been the most interesting bunch but they started to grow on me. Except maybe Emile. I started enjoying Reach more and felt that I may have been to hard on it the first time around. Reach isn’t actually a bad game, it’s just a bad Halo game. Much of what was special about the Halo series seemed to have been cast aside. Even with my new found approval of the game there were still things that bugged me. The AAs still felt like they had been a good set of ideas but very poorly implemented. To this day i feel that jetpack would have been better if treated more as a vehicle. The space combat is still something I wish had been fleshed out more. The thing that I still absolutely can not stand about Reach is it’s offline credit limit. I get why it’s there but it was a lazy solution that punished all the wrong people. It’s not fair to a part of the community who have done nothing wrong.
In the end I can’t give reach more than 70/100. Part of me would really like to but at the same time, there’s a part that wants to give it a much, much lower score. I sincerely hope that both 343 and Bungie learn from the mistakes in Reach.
