It is an undeniable fact that the halo population in halo 2, halo 3, and even halo reach is far superior than every halo game made by 343i that included all these changes. And no the core fan base getting older is just a lame excuse to try and give 343i a pass. Fact is their games just suck compared to previous halo games. Worse sales numbers, worse population stats… There is literally zero evidence to suggest otherwise.

> you still failed to grasp that all those games died out because they stayed the same. so much for your “there is absolutely no evidence to suggest Halo wouldn’t have continued on being just about as popular as it was (or maybe slightly less so).”. all of the franchises i mentioned are large, well known franchises
Medal of Honor died because they were trying be COD and Battlefield with the Last 2 release not mention the games were poorly made. Crysis dropped in quality each new game, Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld actually sold well but CD want to make their own version, Assassin’s Creed I have no idea because only cared about and played Black Flag because of pirates.
Doom has gotten a lot of praise from the PC community specifically for the campaign (DOOM is sitting at Very positive on steam reviews), which guess what played more like a classic DOOM game and the multiplayer got all the hate because they tried to add modern features into it. Not to mention the game actually sold pretty well for a DOOM game which never pulled in numbers like COD or Halo. Also DOOM’s Critic reviews are way better than decent, metacritic has DOOM 85% for PC which is the lowest one.
Also I am not posting this because I don’t think games can’t “Evolve” to a certain degree but more so that I think your examples are wrong. I am only 100% against game franchises that try to change their genre like The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and Syndicate but to no surprise those bombed. However I do think Halo 4 and 5 are not very good and 343 has no Idea what they are doing.

> I know this topic has been talked about a lot but I think we needed these changes. Halo 5 as everyone knows is completely different than CE, halo 2, or 3. Halo CE came out in 2001 if the player base was in high school they would be around 30 something by now. Halo 2 came out in 2004 player base would be around their mid 20s . Halo 3 came out in 2007 the player base now would be in their early 20s or late teens. These are just averages assuming the minimum age to buy halo but there are younger players I was playing halo 2 at the age of 10 but as people get older they grow out of playing xbox daily most original people who played halo ce doesn’t play anymore now it’s the new generation and if they stuck with the old way of playing other games like Titan fall, battle field, and call of duty would get these new players instead of halo because they are going to ask “would I rather jog around a map and shoot or jump across building slide in for a kill with a shot gun?” (And yes I realize the old halos took more skill I’ve played them) what I’m saying is it sounds a lot cooler and more fun to player halo 5 than previous halos and without new players halo will eventually die and some might say well at that point maybe it should and I’ve got to disagree. either way you wouldn’t play halo whether there is a new halo or not but some people enjoy the route halo is going. I’m not saying people who don’t like the way halo 5 has no right to have an opinion I’m saying no one wants to play the same game rapped in a different skin every couple of years unless for some reason you are still complaing that bungie should still be making halo but they would probably be doing the same thing I mean look at destiny so I think bungies halo 4 and 5 would be pretty similar to 343. To end this ill just say I like bungie and 343 both I’ve never judged any game based on who made it. Bungie did a good job with all the halos they have made but that era of gaming is over its time to accept and adapt if you want to continue playing future halos or accept and move on and stop blaming 343 because halo 5 is so different cause they did listen to the community with this one.
Change isn’t always a good thing. Look at the sales for proof. Halo had a successful formula and that change damaged it.
Halo 5 has it’s flaws, however, I believe it makes up for those flaws. I would argue however, that current Bungie (post halo) would do worse with the series. If you want an example, they probably would have made us pay for the monthly updates, despite the content being essential to Halo. So while some people may give 343i crap for not having all of this at launch, they should be grateful they don’t have to pay for it. As that is the current route bungie walks upon.
I like how halo 5 is.
It’s a lot faster than the other Halos in my opinion but to be honest I like the spartan abilities they make you feel like a real -Yoinking!- badass spartan

> > I’m generically aggravated that people won’t accept Halo 5 and its changes. Spartan abilities are not something everyone likes, but do actually expect people to enjoy another Halo with no sprint or SA? Actually yeah probably. But Halo is a strong franchise and I think the community needs to accept that we can’t have a Halo like the ones Bungie made because 343i have chosen the path they chose and it’s also not fair to hate 343i because if you are a fan of Bungie’s current main franchise Destiny, you can understand how Halo would have progressed given Bungie still had the reigns. But we can fantasize where the campaign could have gone
>

> sprint is about the only thing the modern fps audience really expects…spartan abilities in general dont really serve any purpose beyond being a gimmick and quite frankly with how much backlash games like call of duty are getting for having advanced movement…and how much praise battlefield is getting by going to WW1 era…i think its safe to say people are eager to play a shooter without “advanced movement”…and try to remember that 343 isnt your master…you do have a say in how the game is going to be…343 may develop the game but we are the ones who buy and play the game…we dont have to accept anything
I couldn’t agree more. Folks, if you don’t like the game DO NOT BUY IT!!! I cannot stress that enough. If you don’t buy it, they may finally get the friggen hint.
The Multiplayer is great okay there are some things like a pizza skin or a rally warthog but we get free updates every month I mean common you can blame them for that. The monthly updates are nice and all I want in the next halo is an insane and emotional campaign again especially because it will come to Something between Cortana and the Chief.
What was wrong with Halo after it was dropped into 343i’s hands? It’s just hard for me to accept that the studio was given a diamond, and basically sat on the opportunity to explode the Halo Universe with an immense and meaningful experience like its predecessor had, instead choosing to take advantage of a brand that’s in every home. It was a banking decision to make these changes to Halo cause almost all of the advertisements and Pro-League talk just speaks volume about the commercialization of the video game industry into a full blown cash cow. Halo is just falling in line with a long list of titles that once considered both casual and competitive necessities to the lifeline of its product.

If they actually address the many points brought up regarding Halo 5 in Halo 6, I too will believe they are trying and be willing to give them another chance. If not, well, looks like that will be it for Halo for me.

you should be happy about that i mean after all, you want SOME people populating the game your playing right?
and whats really “sad” is the fact that the people who made the halo franchise great are essentially being swept under the rug to appeal to people who for the most part couldnt care less about halo

@ComicBeast1212: Hey slick, I think Halo 3 was the greatest Halo game ever. But you know what? I also liked Wars, and ODST, and Reach, and even 4. Halo hasn’t been dead to ME for 9 years. It has been dying for me for a few months now. They can save it if they really cared, but I feel like 343i isn’t going to go that route.

To add to this if it wasn’t for us you’d never have your precious Halo 5. I’ll make a bold prediction if Halo 6 is like Halo 5 the sales won’t even top 2 million. If you want a casual mainstream shooter please join the COD us vets don’t want that shooter poisoning out series.

It doesn’t matter what you say. People will only see what they want to see.
Many here like to hate on H4, and what an embarrassment it was to Halo and how broken the MP was and how small the online population is. All of that makes is terrible right … except that it was the best selling Halo in the US for its time (beating Halo 3).
That was before Halo 5, because according to MS Halo 5 has that crown now.
But they are all terrible because those guys say they are and everyone else is stupid for having any other logic or reasoning.

Yes precisely. Good to see the two of you understand this basic concept atleast.
I don’t “hate” sprint, it works fine in games like Battlefield, where the maps were already large to begin with. But in Halo, simply increasing base speed works far better, as there is no need to accomodate it by changing the map, adding Spartan charge to prevent the double Melee issue from reach, energy shields while sprinting ect etc. So much of Halos gameplay was changed just so we can have this run animation, when 343 could have simply buffed the base speed, without negatively affecting everything else.

Look up the sales sir every Halo destroyed Halo 5 in sales.
