The commando

I’m still trying to figure out why this weapon is basically useless. Players run past it all the time and even switch out for lesser weapons. Surprising for a newly added exotic weapon.

For me I’ve noticed the constant pinpoint steady aim required (while your getting fired at knocking you out of scope) just make it a chore to use. The damage seems to be there it just seems the aim assist is no where to be found. The only situations I’ve found it useful was when perched up high laying down fire so I couldn’t get knocked out of scope.

Thoughts?

The gun does require some decent aim for it to be viable. I play on M&KB and my aim is pretty good. I tend to use the weapon each time I have the chance to grab it. I think the problem for most is how much accuracy is required.

I find the commando is great if you can get a grenade off around a group of enemies and then use it to get a few headshots (at start go immediate left grab the commando and then on the way back to cover toss two grenades, then peek out and get a few headshots). Not very good close range, but I’ve had some decent success with it in groups where shields are done or partial and using it to pick apart.

Playing on PC with controller.

I don’t mind it. I do find that it spawns significantly more often than the BR does

I grab it every chance I get (unless there’s a BR available), replacing my pistol. Feels pretty powerful to me, at least when my aim is on.

I am a seasoned MKB player and the Commando + Bulldog is so nice. I can’t wait to try them on scrubs rather than bots.

I really want to like this weapon. After all, if you can land all your shots it has a very fast ttk. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to land your shots, and that’s where it fails. For me, the main culprit seems to be aim assist on controller. I don’t know about m&k or other controller players, but it feels like there’s no aim assist at all or very little. And then to top it off, it has a small magazine size so you’re punished even more when you miss those shots. Until something is done about this then I’m just not going to use it in multiplayer. The AR and pistol feel superior.

So here’s my recommendation:
-Reevaluate the aim assist. It needs to be stronger to make it viable
-Increase the magazine size.

For me, I’m not sure what it’s intended role is supposed to be. I feel like at short/medium range it’s clearly inferior to the AR or pistol. And at medium/long range it’s clearly inferior to the BR. I grab it if there’s no BR available, but I’d never choose it over a BR.

I feel like either the recoil needs to be reduced or the damage per bullet needs to be increased.

So far in using it I have discovered the following.

  1. NEVER FREAKING USE THE SCOPE, that is a trap.

  2. Full auto at medium range, use single fire to poke and finish off targets.

  3. You need to aim for the body at the start of the burst to hit the head at the end.

The weapon should be treated like an FAL. it is a full power cartage in an automatic weapon, so use it like such. Note this isn’t coming from the CoD side of me this is coming from the gun nut side of me.

Full power automatics are rare and tend to be used in only a few cases their main purpose is short accurate bursts or a spray of suppressing fire. with semi auto used for long range.

Think of the weapon in game play like a mix of an LMG and a DMR. Use automatic to suppress your target for easy grenade kills, use semi auto for clean headshots at longer range.

IMHO this weapon is totally useless when zoomed in. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or by design, but when taking enemy fire it zooms out and you are basically left defenseless. This more often then not leads to you dying because the bots somehow know and just head shot you to death right after. If it’s by design, I’m puzzled why that is… It doesn’t feel too powerful and the recoil is so high that you really have to concentrate and/or remain in a fixed position while firing. Running and gunning hasn’t yielded great results for me personally. It sounds like others feel the same out this.

I like the weapon. I’m playing on the Series X and it is a bit of an intimidating precision weapon at first, but after practising the recoil it can be used to utterly shred enemies. I think utilising it’s single and auto fire for individual situations make it a very good weapon.
