I haven’t seen this discussed anywhere (although truthfully didn’t look very hard) so I thought I would bring it to my fellow forum-goers attention.
I’m very excited with all the news about the addition of Spartan Ops and its episodic content structure. I am also excited to play the campaign itself with my friends, killing Forerunner AI’s and what-have-you.
However, I have not seen anyone ask about the co-op lag. You know, the slight button delay that was a slight nuisance in Halo 3, noticeable in ODST, and made Reach firefight and campaign feel like you’re playing underwater with its multiple-second delays?
I’ve always been a co-op person over a matchmaking person at heart, and I think Halo 4 will be the best shooter in almost half a decade, but I strongly believe that whether this lag persists for the fourth game in a row will make or break Halo 4 for me.
im with you all the way! I LOVE coop it’s my favorite part of any game (after a well told single player story of corse) What could be better than enjoying a fantastic story with friends by your side? so I really hope they reduce the lag in coop
I thought it was understandable but mildly annoying in Halo 3, since it was Bungie’s first game on the Xbox 360. It was no big surprised that it persisted in ODST since it was the same engine with better lighting.
But I thought it was unacceptable when I loaded up Reach co-op for the first time and watched as my Spartan drunkenly stumbled from mission to mission, missing shots, walking into grenades and oncoming vehicles and otherwise outright refusing to do actions that I the player, upon pressing the required button on the controller, expected my character to perform.
I definetly agree with you on this… One time and only one time was I able to play halo reach’s firefight with 4 people and without lag. It was… AMAZING! I truly hope 343 has fixed this stupid little issue… Games like gears of war, uncharted, COD, BF3, etc all have no problems when it comes to firefight type and co-op modes… so why must I suffer from lag on halo?!
Yeah, i agree. Halo CEA’s coop was bad because of bad coding. Halo Reach Coop had heaps lag because of bad host selection, cos when i was playing wiht my friend, i have better internect connection than he does as i end up lagging because it chooses him as host. But 343 did state that because of Halo 4, Halo Reachs multiplayer and coop is gonna suffer.
Halo Reach could be totally shut down for all I care after Halo 4 is released.
Most of the time I discovered the lag seemed to on where your friends were in relation to you. For instance, I could play with a friend locally, and the lag wouldn’t be too bad. Noticeable, but playable. However, a majority of my Halo friends are English (and I American) so you can imagine how horrific playing Firefight was with 3 Brits and a Yank.
Anniversary was laggy because all they really did was code in online multiplayer into a decade old game engine. I was mad that the game ran so poorly (the game literally ran at about 10 fps with above mentioned Brits) but after I thought about it I realized I shouldn’t be too surprised.
