Everyone knows that a skilled individual with a BR should and will beat an unskilled individual with an AR. However, I had another query that I want answered. Should an unskilled person with a BR beat a veteran with an AR?
Using Halo 3 as an example, my mediocre BR skills would always beat out an AR toting opponent, even if I missed half my headshots! I know it’s a thin line, because at some point the BR would be underpowered to the AR, which would break Halo’s classic tier structure. What do you think should be done in Halo 4?
close range- any person who knows how to use an AR properly will kill a person with BR without a beatdown
mid range- even chance if there is decent cover for the AR user
long range- AR gets rapizzled by BR
Why would a ‘pro’ be using a AR?
> Why would a ‘pro’ be using a AR?
Believe it or not I seen pros in Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo Reach that were holding other weapons than the BR and DMR. It actually happens every single game.

Like the Sniper, Rockets, Needle Rife, Carbine, Mauler, Pistol?

Agreed, I may not be “pro” but back when I was really into Reach Match Making, I could kill a person using the AR at mid range with ease, I still can kill people with an AR at that range, but I’ve moved back to sniping, the one thing that in most games, I’m very good at.
A true pro will be able to use what ever gun he can to kill people, not just stick to one OP weapon.
Now, I have one major complaint about the poll. Where the -Yoink- is the Maybe option!?
The AR should win in direct close range. If not, it means that the AR is designed poorly rather than the utility weapon being overpowered.

If a AR user get’s beat by a BR user, that doesn’t mean the utility weapon is over powered, it just means the AR user sucks, or the BR user is that good. AR’s should have a slight advantage over a BR, but not where 9 out of 10 times the AR wins, it should be a 50 50 chance.
The AR and BR should be like it was in Halo 3. You four shot, you win. You miss a shot. You die. It was more than fair.

Halo should never be a game about chance. There should be no 50-50, the more skilled player, or the player in the better weighted position, of a battle should always win. If a person makes a mistake, it is there own fault.
Most of you are bringing outside variables into the argument.
If all things are equal, the AR should beat the BR at maximum rate of fire at close range. Once you are out of close range, the BR should beat the AR because of the natural inaccuracy of the AR.
Why would you use an AR? If you’re within sprinting distance of an enemy, melee will win. If you’re outside of sprinting distance, the BR should win.

The BR should have an advantage over the AR, not the other way around.
No one should win just because their gun is “better”. The Ar guy should have odds stacked in his favor at close range.
Really? I almost always win if its closer than 12 feet and the dude doesnt get a 4 shot in halo 3.
The BR should have a bigger niche than the AR since it requires more skill, but thats not to say that the AR doesnt deserve a niche. Id say AR gets 2-8feet would be a good niche where 2 decently skills players would fight, and the AR would win.

Really? You believe that there shouldn’t be any equal chances, no balanced game play? Up close and personal, the AR and the BR should have equal chances to kill each other, not the Battle Rifle being an overpowered weapon that every one and their dog picks up because VS any other weapon it always wins.

At long range to mid range, yes, but short to close, the AR should have a slight advantage.
Can you be pro with an AR?

There’s no such thing as an AR veteran… they’re called noobs.
