The Chief's Face!

Heck yeah, another one of these topics… anyway, I was watching the trailer for the new Fall of Reach series by Sequence and I was thinking… is anyone really that worried about seeing the Chief’s face anymore? I mean we’re not going to see it in Halo 5, but is there even really a mystery anymore? Through the comics, trailers, books, and now Fall of Reach, I feel like we have a pretty good idea of what the Chief looks like. What comes to mind is a quote by Frank O’ Conner that if you were to go to a crime sketch artist or whatever and give them a description of Chief from the Fall of Reach book, they would be able to sketch him perfectly.

Anyway, we know that the Chief is abnormally pale, has freckles, brownish/reddish hair, and a small gap between his front teeth.

Here are some descriptions:

> Early in Halo: The Fall of Reach, when Dr. Catherine Halsey and Lieutenant Jacob Keyes go to Eridanus II to observe John as a child, he is described as “a typical six-year-old male, with tousled brown hair and a sly smile that revealed a gap between his front teeth.”

> In Halo: The Flood, referring to John in 2552, he is described as having “Short hair, with serious eyes, a firm mouth, and a strong jaw.” He is described as being unnaturally pale, a consequence of spending most of his time in his armor.

> In Bungie’s Happy Halodays 2010 holiday card, the back of John-117’s head can be seen since he is not wearing his helmet, in which he has dark brown hair.

> Franchise development director Frank O’Connor gave a description of Master Chief’s appearance on October 9 in an interview with GameTrailers: “an older man, almost painfully pale, almost albino white, with pale blue eyes, reddish hair, close cropped to a skin head, and maybe the last remnants of freckles he had when he was a kid.”

I know that there are a lot of pics there, but make sure to check the last three, those are from the upcoming Fall of Reach Animated Series. Obviously, most of these pictures show John as a kid, but its not too hard to picture what he would be like as an adult given these images and descriptions. Anyway, what do you guys think? I have too much time on my hands lol.

I don’t ever want to see his adult face.

I always imagined him looking like robocop (the original).

I think the descriptions of his face in books is fine, but all of these images and now FoR has slowly spoiled it for me (personally).

We basically know what John looks like. But if they ever reveal his adult face in game, it should mean something. Like maybe at the end of Halo 6, MC retires from duty after some massive battle and the ending scene is him taking off his helmet and reveals his face.

I think it should happen when he reclaims his humanity. Oh, maybe that’s what they mean by the Reclaimer Saga!

Ever.

This - if they ever do it, they should pull somewhat of a Darth Vader type move and only show it in the Chief’s final scene before he dies/retires/whatever.

Although now that we see teenage John in TFOR there’s very little mystery left. The adult can’t look that much different.

Why exactly? I’m just curious as to why some people adamantly never want to see his face.

We don’t know what he looks like as of 2558, and I’d like to keep it that way. Master Chief is the kind of character where giving him a face (in game) would make him seem less epic.

My thoughts exactly!

he has the london look. LOL

Am i the only one that thinks i would see Chief differently if we ever saw his face, and doesent want 343 to reveal it? I mean i feel that 343 is doing it right, and his helmet is pretty much his badge of symbolism, i think we should only see glimpses of his face and keep it that way.

I agree

At first, I was against showing Chief’s adult face. But now I’m fine if they show his face, he’s becoming more of his own character in the games finally.

I stopped caring about them showing his face a while ago. If they wanna do it, then go ahead, It’s not like we don’t know what he looks like, as you pointed out in your original post, so…meh.

Because its kind of his thing now. He Is iconic for it. The most iconic shooter character.

Let him do his thing

Because the legend is bigger than the man.
Also, Spartans spend a lot of time in their armor, but even more for the Chief. How many times have we seen Spartans remove their helmet and Chief leaves his on? When we say that Mjolnir is a second skin for spartans we’re just speaking figuratively, but it’s absolutely true for Chief. It leaves you with the impression that Chief has no use for a human face, that chief would gladly trade his real skin for permanent Mjolnir.
I know I’m greatly romanticizing the issue, but I feel as though I’ve already seen his face and it’s an olive drab MK VI helmet with a gold visor. Any other face is going to be the face of a stranger.
