There had been a fair amount of talk concerning the opening film clip of Mission 2, “Blue Team,” where Chief can be seen ‘trembling’ just slightly as he passes his thumb across what once was Cortana’s data port in his helmet. This is often used as fodder for discussion about how damaged 117 is by her loss.
I’ve watched it a number of times, and I’m not interpreting that ‘shaking’ the same way. To me, it looks more like an optical artifact; like watching something pass behind tempered or warped glass, or the shakiness could be an electromagnetic jittering of the framerate, perhaps.
It just doesn’t quite translate as a Chief with a spate of shaky hands to me. You have to watch it on console rather than video for best effect. Thoughts?
I’ve always wondered what the shaking is too, but I don’t believe it has anything to do with the story. Probably just an oversight by 343 that they forgot to fix.
I believe 343 confirmed that it was a visual glitch. I don’t have a source, but I remember this being discussed before the game launched when they first showed Blue teams intro.

Yeah, this was one of the early pre-release gameplay trailers or something, so it got more exposure than the rest. I believe it was featured in a front page story in GameInformer…I remember reading about the author’s experience with Mission 2, and could NOT wait to play. He did a great job of describing the settings in that article; I actually felt fairly prepared the first time I played it.

I almost…no, I really DO wish it was a genuine tremble. It would have really resonated with the ending of H4 and drawn a really great parallel with the work they did with his character in it.

Well, I think Cortana still being alive would undermine the tremble later on and this make all the emotion from Halo 4’s ending still wasted.

Yah people always said it was because he was working himself to death, but in the back of my mind I always thought that it wasn’t the case. Glad to hear what I thought is true, and that chief isn’t actually trembling.
