The Chief/Locke fight

I was thinking about how mad everyone was when we didn’t get to fight Chief.

Wouldn’t that be like Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, Optimus Prime, Super Man, Batman, Spock, Anakin Skywalker, and every single Power Ranger vs a single small child? I mean, Locke is all flash. We really only see him lose almost his entire team on Installation 04 once and take 2 random people and one of the best to their near death.

I want to hear some different perspectives on this.

Whaaat? We had an epic fight.
Chief: “I’m leaving”
Locke: “No you’re not.”
Chief: “Yes I am.”
Locke: “No you’re not.”
Chief: “Yes I am”
Locke: “Ok later bro”

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Wow lol. This comment better get every like from everyone who sees it

I’m not sure how they would even make the fight interactive that wasn’t some type of lame QTE without having to turn it into a temporary fighting game. It would funny if all of a sudden we had health bars above both characters and a big “Fight” flashed on the screen.

Wasn’t there a new Mortal Kombat with Arby as a fighter?

There was, but it was in Killer Instinct.

I can’t believe the climax was chief’s visor cracking. It would have been WAY cooler if their armor started falling apart or something.

I’ll be honest, at that point of the game, I was really hoping Locke would get thrown into a black hole or something…and to the original request; the fight was meant for Locke to lose, so there might not have been enough cough…story…cough to make it seem legit enough for player interaction.

Uh… no, not really. Spartan-IIs are superior to -IVs, but not by that big a gap.

If you have read the lore or understand the difference between Spartan programs, you know the fight should have been over before it even got started. Chief would smash Locke like the Hulk would smash the movie version of Hawkeye. That’s the only scene in the game that truly irritates me to this day. And I played it two years ago on release.

I don’t recall any one being mad we didn’t get to fight Chief and I don’t think any one wants to fight Chief. I was even mad that 343 let a Spartan IV crack his visor. They should have had Chief body slam Locke so hard he is implanted into the rock and is left there like a turtle on his back.

Spot on i was on the edge of my seat as well one of the best parts of halo 5

It doesn’t matter how good Locke actually is in the Halo universe, or if he can beat Chief in an actual fight in the Halo universe… Due to chief being the flagship character of the Halo franchise, you can’t have Chief lose to the new kid on the block. The game is centered on the chief performing almost impossible feats and overcoming the toughest of intergalactic enemies. What sense would it make for 343 to introduce a new character that no one has ever heard of that could come in and mop the floor with Chief. If 343 had made that fight end with Locke winning then that would mean:

A) They are about to remove Chief and replace him since he was just beaten
and/or
B) He is not as great as everyone thinks he is, and should be removed from his pedestal.

Either way, throughout the entirety of the Halo franchise we have not seen Chief LOSE a fight. The closest he has come to defeat is at the end of halo 4 when he was MENTALLY distraught by the (almost) loss of Cortana. Other than that we have not seen Chief break a sweat, let alone lose to anyone or anything. Even before he was the Chief (during recruit training under Mendez), his character was still written to overcome every obstacle…

The main audience would riot in the streets if Chief lost a fight… This is the reason why people see Chief as you say “Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, Optimus Prime, Super Man, Batman, Spock, Anakin Skywalker, and every single Power Ranger” all rolled up in to one being.

Look at all the backtracking 343 is doing now with Halo 6 before the game is even released. That is just a response to the mainstream audience THINKING that 343 would do anything to so much as hint that chief may be gone.

As far as Locke almost losing his team…
What did you expect to happen when you give a team to a soldier who is used to being a lone wolf assassin? Of course his would not make the best leader. The same issue would have been present if Noble 6 (R.I.P) was given his own team. It would be a debacle.

Locke and Chief are both great in their own respective rights. It’s just a matter of 343/Halo Community being more invested in Chief because he has been there since the beginning and in most of the game titles. Locke is in a situation he can’t win.

Almost pointless to be said because Spartans never seem to be out of their armor, but if Locke was dumb enough to fight chief without the armor just man to man it would be a massacre. Lucky for the Spartan IVs their armor bridges the gap.

Yeah, that fight annoyed me so much. Chief should have smashed him so fast.

And plus the gen-II armor the IVs wear close the gap even further. All things considered, they’re pretty much even if they have their armor on.

What bugs me is how un-immersive the fight was. This fight should’ve shown the differences between the Spartan IIs and IVs, not how their kit makes them equal but how they fight and their approach that makes them equal. Chief’s augmentations and brute force should match with Locke’s nimble fighting of an assassin and his technically superior armour (considering Locke used the thruster whilst Chief didn’t in that fight). Instead most of the attacks were very sluggish and predictable and was in no way indicative of the two Spartan’s close combat capabilities. Also the armour’s shields didn’t flare when they were hit and that point also ruined the immersion of the cutscene when compared to others.

I believe the original story had Locke killing Chief, then it would have been Cortana vs Locke… but that narrative was so ridiculous that it was scrapped, fwhich is why we got what we got.

My friend really liked it a lot, I think locke could have tagged chief though when he nocked him down and broke his visor. I dont know what locke was thinking letting him get up like that… lol

Edit: and I hope locke brought more then one of those restrictive things, cuz blue team wasn’t just going to let him walk off with the chief.
