Alright, shooting a quick question out. Is it at all possible for Dr Halsey to actually be Johns mother? She DID create the spartans, and John was the BEST.
And just throwing this out there:
Cortana (Which is pretty much Halsey in AI form) protects, guides, and informs John throughout the campaign. Like a mother, maybe Halsey wanted a piece of herself to be with her son? Protecting him? Helping him when she’s not there. Maybe she created Cortana out of guilt, she wasn’t there as a mother to John, so she created him an AI Mother.
BUT maybe, this doesn’t rule out there being a “love connection” between Cortana and John, considering Cortana is modeled after Halsey, Males do tend to look for traits they’ve seen in their mother, in the women they go for.

There is absolutely zero possibility of her being his biological mother, or even adoptive mother in any sense other than that she created the Spartans.
They would have to retcon the hell out of the story for that to happen.
hmmm cant see it, John as a kid was kidnapped by the UNSC to be made into a Spartan, i cant see why Halsey would have her own son kidnapped to have him turned into a Spartan when she could have just put him in the Spartan program to start with.
Cortana was created using a flash cloned copy of Dr Halsey’s brain, it stands to reason that the Cortana you see could be infact the visual reprisentation of a younger Dr Halsey in her early to mid 20’s, Cortana seems to share Dr Halsey’s memories, thoughts and opinions. When she was asked by Dr. Halsey to pick a “carrier”, Cortana chose John-117 for his neural compatibility.
Cortana is acutally the 2nd flash cloned “Smart A.I” of Dr Halsey’s brain the first A.I to come from Dr Halsey was infact called Kalmiya which she later on destroyed herself during or a very short time after the Fall Of Reach, so i cant see her making Cortana just out of guilt or anything like that.
Plus theirs one important sentence at the start of Halo 3 that Cortana says while your watching the video clip she says “They let me pick. Did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others, you were strong and swift and brave. A natural leader. But you had something they didn’t. Something no one saw, but me. Can you guess…? Luck.”"
its the “They let me pick” part, Cortana chose to be paired with John for a number of reasons she wasnt forced upon him or made for him.

OP’s really not that far off, though; Halsey and Mendez practically raised the Sparten-II’s. And I’d argue that Halsey had a healthier relationship with those augmented child soldiers suffering from Stockholm syndrome than she ever did with her biological daughter.
