The challenge system remains

How is the challenge system still part of the game?!? I thought it was going away with the winter update…

Up to this point, completing Challenges has been the main progression driver through the Battle Pass—Challenges grant XP which levels you up each reward tier. With the Winter Update, we are looking to evolve this system as we pursue the goal of helping players progress their Battle Pass at a faster rate in response to community feedback. This means that the system will transition to be Match XP-focused with Challenges providing a bonus boost.

We still believe that Challenges can help spark players’ interest in the game and provides some good direction for short-term goals, which has previously been part of the multiplayer experience in Halo: Reach and Halo 4, but the purpose of Challenges will be “redirected.”

Completion of Challenges will still provide some XP, but they will now primarily serve as the path towards earning customization items each week through the Ultimate Reward.

I think if the challenge system is here to stay it should be much more simple, x number of games played, flags captured, headshot kills, just kills ect
Making guardian angel medals seems random or quick draw, and weapon or weapon type spacfic kills are antithetical to me helping my team win, which i find the most fun and invigorating part of halo multi-player.
Having to play 5 rounds of Fiesta that i dont really care to play more than one of to compete challenges just isnt fun.

I mean from what I’ve seen this week it’s already a lot better than it was before, but yeah the one with guardian Angel and all those weird rare metals is a bit ridiculous. But of course you know they still want the bad challenges in there so that way it encourages people to use or buy challenge swaps. Freaking ridiculous.

I was able to complete most of the challenges this week in Tactical Slayer or Team Slayer. I did go to fiesta a couple times but I like fiesta.

I found them worse than the last few months but i imagine that will differ from person to person, the repeat armor coating was a bit lame to for the big winter update.

I like Fiesta too, but it gets old fast.

I get fiesta getting old. As for the coating being a repeat, 343i said that during the winter update season the rewards are going to be rewards from previous weeks that were the most popular that people weren’t able to get because of the old challenge system.

I have definitely enjoyed this week’s challenge selection versus virtually any previous weeks challenges. The last week of season 2 half of my challenges were all for rumble pit. First off I hate rumble pit. Second a handful of those that were for rumble pit wanted me to get assists in rumble pit. Yeah because that makes total sense. In rumble pit a free-for-all game type where the objective is to get the most kills so that you win I am directed to only get assists instead of kills. /clap, clap, clap/ freaking fantastic job with that one 343i.

They just forgot to rename it from Challenges to “Side Objectives”, since they no longer are challenging in the slightest.

That’s all. They can rename weekly rewards to participation trophies too while they’re at it since everyone and their mothers can probably clear those effortlessly now.

Were they ever challenging? Or just vary annoying?

See i dont lile that either, sometimes the good thing about sometimes is its rarity. But i guess that means i dont really havr to worry about challenges untill march i guess.

I do miss some of the old ways of obtaining things from older franchise. Hayabasa armor in Halo 3 I believe you needed to find all the skulls, a few of which took people forever to get. IWHBYD Skull comes to mind specifically lol.

Don’t think people would even tolerate this though now-a-days. If it’s not easy to obtain, or takes time and effort to earn it, it’s noooo good. Has to be simple and easy so that everyone can get it.

Once they fix the two Campaign Stances ( and weapon charm ) how well people take it. Since those are rumored to require 100% completion of Campaign to acquire.

Some of them were a little challenging, most were still easy. But they’re way easier now after the change…

I think connecting some of the cosmetics to stuff like completing the campaign on normal, heroic or legendary difficulty or collecting all the skulls would be perfectly fine. Sure it takes time but it’s a different kind of challenge that isn’t just spend more time playing more multiplayer. It’s a specific objective that you can complete in your own time because it’s campaign.

This is what I was hoping for when they were talking about having cosmetics that were only for people who played the campaign. Instead we got some really crappy coatings for vehicles, weapons and a couple of terrible coatings for Spartans and a few not so bad ones. And realistically I don’t even count those as real rewards. They’re all just recolorings of stuff. To me that’s not actually customization. I was expecting helmets, chest pieces, shoulder pieces, things like that.

Colors for your Spartan armor is not a reward. It’s a slow handing back of something that you should have already had. We’ve been able to change our Spartans color to whatever we wanted it to be for 20 years now. There’s no reason to remove this option other than to sell it back to you. So… it’s not a reward.

Literally no one ever said this.

Also, what is there to complain about with the new challenge system? You can play whatever you want and still be able to complete like 90% of the challenges regardless of map or playlist. It’s been overhauled significantly.

5 matches and I’ll have completed all “challenges” before the final one completed lol. and that’s only because one is to complete 3 matches lol.

Not including the final challenge for this weeks participation trophy, since that won’t unlock till the rest are done.

LMAO :joy:, I knew people would still complain about “challenges” even when they’re so easy a toddler could do it. Guess next step is to change them too “start up the game”, “walk 5 feet in any game mode”, “fire your guns 5 times”, “kill Spartans”, “hit the button you designated to turn on voice chat and talk”.

or hell, skip that and just have a button “hit Y to clear all challenges for you”, hurray, you’ve now completed them all! Have some free xp!

And its still bad, might as well be rid of it.

Its not abot them being challenging, its about them being antithetical to gamplay.

But… why? Tell me why it should be gotten rid of (give me a reason, not just hurr durr it sucks)

Well, they are called challenges…

Regardless then, what would you consider good “challenges” then?

Instead of trying to win a match, im trying to find a weapon spawn so i can use a gun i dont like so i can get x number of kills with it, not fun, god forbid its a get x number of killjoys challenge, now i have to let the other team kill me, try to track their kills, then hope i can be the first one to pop the dude. Not fun.
Get a Guardian angel medal, ok now i wait for someone to try and kill a teammate and try to kill him before he kills them, fun when the medal randomly pops, not fin to actively pursue.
I would honestly prefer to make them more challenging So long as they’re not opposed to the actual gameplay

Weapon challenges list multiple weapons last I checked, you don’t need one specific gun, you can use a variety…

All the rest come of those come naturally in games without purposely trying for them.

100 headshot kills, win 3 games in a row, get a steaktacular, stuff that Incentivizes winning and team play
