The challenge system is sucking the life and soul out of Halo!

I honestly don’t get it. An XP system that doesn’t reward you for winning, playing good, getting kills, assists or medals. But simply forcing you into gamemodes you don’t like. Forcing you to play against your teammates, getting yourself killed, quitting matches… And maybe worse of all: MONETIZING that system!

I do not get it. 343 Industries is backed up by one of the richest companies in the entire world. And after 6 months of this worthless system, there is still NO sight of it being thrown out the window. This should have been fixed by last January.

My latest frustration with this “challenge” system.
Getting ‘Win 2 Capture the Flag matches’.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!! There is no CtF playlist!!!”

use challenge swap

Getting ‘Win 2 Stronghold matches’.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!! There is no Strongholds playlist!!!”

use challenge swap

‘Get 10 rocket launcher kills’

Super frustrating challenge, but after max 5 Fiesta games, it should be over right?

Well, I played 6 Fiesta games in a row. I DID NOT SPAWN WITH A ROCKET LAUNCHER A SINGLE TIME. I looked it up in Halotracker.com. I died 79 times in those 6 matches. Many times from running into the enemy players on purpose or jumping off the map. There is no point in winning or losing, so why not? Then 6 times spawning at the beginning of the match. So a total of 85 (79 + 6) spawns in 6 matches, did not give me a rocket launcher ONCE.

How the actual %$^*#%&@ is this supposed to be fun? The biggest challenge in this system is not slamming my controller in my monitor all the time.

REMOVE this challenge system. How hard is it anyway?

  • Playing a match gives X XP,
  • kills give X XP,
  • wins give X XP,
  • medals give X XP. Harder to get medals give more XP than easy medals.
  • a bonus slot, just like in REACH that gives a random amount of XP to keep things exciting. Et cetera, et cetera.
  • Dying removes XP for all I care. Not too much. It shouldn’t be a frustrating experience.

I have nothing against the first 5 matches of every day giving you extra XP like it is now.
To earn the weekly reward, you should earn X amount of XP.
The new system should be up and running in a month.

Yeah, no.
<20 sweet peas>

I’m convinced the system is rigged against your active challenges. I once died over 100 times looking to spawn with rockets in Fiesta. And if you need CTF and Strongholds? You’re going to be playing a lot of Oddball and Slayer.

My guess is they are just going for the metrics: See look how popular all these playlists are. People are playing them all the time. We’ll just ignore the fact that they don’t actually want to play that playlist and they’re only there for the challenges.

I’m kind of torn on the challenge system.

I agree with what you’ve said about not getting game types ans weapons and how there should be more skill based XP rewards - especially for medals.

The system needs improvement for sure but I don’t hate it.

I also don’t care about the weekly rewards. Sometimes I’ll go for it - usually during an event because I am already making an effort for challenges.

If the progression system wasn’t finite, I’d care more about the skilled based XP rewards. I’ll officially be half way through the second season next time I play.

Maybe I’m just luckier too. A lot of my challenges are ‘get 7500 in SWAT’ or ‘complete two FFA matches’. When I get challenges like that I’ll get them as close to done as I can, and then wait until I pop my next 2XP the next day.

Please just join one of the existing threads on this topic.

I don’t know man. If you remove too much XP from dying, people are gonne hate it. I thought 10 xp for a kill and then remove 2 xp per death, or something along those lines. But you’re allowed to have your own opinions.

…Why lose any XP at all for dying?

I used to play an F2P called Ether Saga in which you lost XP/levels for dying during quests. I don’t think it’s a good idea. Maybe some might like the challenge. It was very grindy.
