The Bulletin: Frank's quote Misunderstanding?

I’m taking this quote from the bulletin:

> But the team grew. And we learned. And we’re still learning. And the game arrived and it succeeded. Halo 4 is the best and fastest-selling Halo game in the series.

There have been some problems out there in the understanding of the true meaning of this quote…i’m italian, that’s why i’m asking you what you think about it.

The problem is, is ‘Best’ related to the sells or to the game itself?

  1. Halo 4 is the best selling game in the series AND the fastest selling game in the series.

  2. Halo 4 is the best GAME in the series AND it is the fastest selling game in the series.

If it is the second case, i wasn’t expecting much arrogance from Frankie…

I hope he really meant best SELLING and fastest SELLING game. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he meant best game quality wise.

I think both, if he wanted a clear distinction between those two possibilities than he would have chosen other words.

In hopes of humility towards the issues with multiplayer im hoping he is talking about sales. Campaign was best but quality multiplayer lacks at certain degrees. Halo 2 was the overall best in my opinion. If he truly believes Halo 4 is the best, id say yes for POTENTIAL but currently? Let me just say “Bartender, id like to have 10 of what hes having just to catch up.”

Not saying 343i doesnt have a clue but if thats the case Halo 5 and beyond will recieve no money from me, not even for the campaign. (Begin community outrage towards opinion with comments of outrage, defamation of character, and questions of insanity)

He meant the first one, you could easily flip around fastest and best and get the same meaning out of the statement.

The hyphenated “fastest-selling” points to him meaning the second one, but i think he meant the first, and whoever wrote it doesn’t know how to use grammer correctly. They would never say that about halo 4 as it makes them sound arrogant and idiotic.

It’s definitely the first. Anyone who creates anything won’t ever openly admit that what you make is “the best ever” because 1) you look arrogant and 2) you are always your worst critic.

Considering in the very next sentence he talks about flaws and that’s what the entire bulletin ends up being about, it’s obviously not about the game but the sales. Think what you want about 343 but they certainly aren’t up their own *** THAT much. They know they are new and have a lot to learn, which again, is exactly what they said in the bulletin, about themselves.

It’s sad this even has to be asked

Definitely sales. I’m not saying the game is bad, but I think Frank was referencing sales.

It can be interpreted both ways.

I thought he was referencing sales. But every one is a fanboy and had to flame about it.

Speaking on the logic of the linguistics, the statement:

“Halo 4 is the best and fastest-selling Halo game in the series.”

Is to say two things, when we distribute the conjunction.

“Halo 4 is the best.”
and
“Halo 4 is the fastest-selling Halo game in the series.”

The ‘best’ part does not distribute over to the, “Halo game in the series” to make:

“Halo 4 is the best Halo game in the series.”

So we’re left with the statement being equivalent to the conjunction of:

(Halo 4 is the best) and (Halo 4 is the fastest-selling Halo game in the series.)

by what his statement entails by the logic of the linguistics.
Any other interpretation would be invalid, just because it can only be linguistically detailed as the above, by the way it was constructed.

Exept that, if you are right, “Halo 4 is the best” and “Halo 4 is the best game in the series” are equivalent. Being the best means there’s nothing better, that being said, “the best” is just a generalization of “better than this or that” so they are equivalent (if Halo 4 is the best than it’s also better than any other Halo game).

He is referencing sales. Thats very obvious…

> He is referencing sales. Thats very obvious…

I know, but it wasn’t that obvious for: Them, or them or them or them

> > He is referencing sales. Thats very obvious…

Think about this from the another point of view. If they wrote down “Frankie meant sales”, they would have a normal article. If they write down “Frankie said Halo 4 is the best Halo ever made”, then they will create more controversy which will benefit them.

I might be wrong, but this is my 2 cents worth on it.

Another thing, i’m not exacly sure that Halo 4 is the best selling Halo game in the series tough.

While I can understand some people’s possible confusion with this, there’s a big difference between saying, “…the best, and fastest-selling,” and, “the best and fastest-selling.”

sigh…people moaned when 343i were seen as being too quiet on issues being reported. Now they have stepped up and admitted to it, its not good enough and their words being flipped against them

Experience gamers will know that sales figures do not mean that a game is good cough CoD cough , but it does show the interest in a game and HALO 4 was the most anticipated Xbox game across the world in 2012 for old and new HALO fans alike

Being a HALO fan since the original game and xbox console and as someone who has attended the midnight launch of every HALO game since, there was more buzz about HALO 4 then any previous game in the series

But this part of the bulletin is not what is important. The important part was the admission that failings were made both in terms of the game but also in the lack of interaction and communication with the HALO community post launch. That to me is the real important part

343i deserve the chance to fix things, in two months so much feedback has been given that the TU we all expected this month is now coming end of February, I hope that this means its taking longer to try and resolve all issues being reported so the TU can deliver as much as it can, and 343i deserve the chance to give us this TU and until tht happens and we see the state of HALO 4, its time to get off their backs for a little while, go play something else but god…stop with the nerd rage

I supposed it all depends on perspective and of course Frank’s intended meaning.
The people who enjoyed the game might argue that he meant he/343 thought it was the best in the series.
Those who despise the game with a passion might claim that he meant it was the best because of sales numbers only.
