The Bulldog is weird...

I don’t know if any 343i employees have fired pump-action shotguns before, but generally speaking there’s a reason magazine-fed shotguns are semi-automatic.

The ergonomics on the new shotgun are unnatural and goofy looking. Firearm magazines (especially drum style) typically get in the way of your offset arm when cycling a pump action and this is why these type of shotguns still use tubular magazines as the standard. Everytime I used the Bulldog, I couldn’t help but fixate on how the player character had to keep his arm at a weird angle to avoid clipping through the drum mag.

This is not to say that they shouldn’t have added it, on the contrary, I love that they’re finally adding new content in the old art style. The new shotgun functions very well in-game and it looks stunning (even though most fans would disagree). However, having used firearms like this in the past, it irked me in the slightest way.

Here’s a couple of changes that I might suggest to the 343i team:

  1. Keep everything the same, just move the drum magazine to the stock area like a bullpup type shotgun.
  2. Make the Bulldog semi-automatic, reduce the damage output, and increase the spread.
  3. Use a standard box-style magazine to reduce the necessity of awkward ergonomics.

What are y’all’s thoughts on this?

If anything I thought it needs a buff to be a real cqb monster like the shotguns from H4/H5. For looks, sounds, & animations, pure coolness.

I think that being it’s a sci-fi video game set 500+ years in the future gives it some breathing room to be somewhat unlike realistic semi-auto shotguns.

Also, the Bulldog is more or less already semi-auto. If you hold the trigger it will fire continuously but I prefer to tap the trigger for better aim and therefore more damage.

The Bulldog is designed by function to be weaker than the previous shotguns in the series, because the Bulldog is not a power weapon it is a loadout weapon. There is room in the sandbox for a more powerful pump-action though, which I’m willing to bet money will be coming to Infinite soon

True. I did notice that it took quite a few headshots to bring someone down, even at relatively close range.

I hope it does, always liked the classic

I don’t like it so much, it don’t feel as powerfull as the previous ones even if it look interesting. But is it really confirmed if it is the M45 / M90 substitute as main shotgun, or just a variant to add to the Halo Infinite Armory?

I really like the system but its just so weak that I dont bother picking it up

Yeah my money is on the old school shotgun coming back still for some maps and this is just an alternative one

All I’m saying is the original shotgun better be in the game. I don’t know what it’s with 343 and there hard on for destroying iconic weapons. They did it with the rocket launcher now they’re trying to do it with the shotgun.

Really? I was able to consistently take bots out with two shots.

It’s just a variant, a different weapon, much like the Sidekick is different from the Magnum or the Commando is different from the DMR

The Bulldog is not a replacement for the shotgun, it is an addition as a new weapon.

We will see. I did like them rotating weapons I actually enjoyed that a lot so we will see. But didn’t they say that about the rocket launcher before they had to add it in DLC a few months later.

Maybe it’s just me, but it felt like it was only consistent when you got within punching distance, as opposed to the old style shotgun which was still lethal a little further out…

I don’t think so. The Halo 5 rocket launcher was simply a design change, whereas the Bulldog is an entirely different beast from our old shotgun. Same goes with the Sidekick and how it compares to the Magnum. Where the Magnum is a primary weapon, the Sidekick was exclusively designed to be a secondary backup weapon for cleanup kills. The Bulldog, compared to the old shotgun, is a loadout weapon and thus fires faster and deals less damage. It’s not designed to be a one-shot kill, moreso it sits in the sandbox nice and tidy next to the SMG in terms of usage. There is room in the sandbox for our old, slower firing on-shot shotgun to come back, same goes with the Magnum. 343 said before they want everything Halo to pool into Halo Infinite, that includes new and old weapons

Didn’t they say they replaced the traditional shotgun we all know and love with the bulldog?? I found that it, at the closest range was a two tap but if more than 2.5 feet was between you the damage was kinda wonkey as hell. The reload animation was so slow probably due to the drum mag it has. I really hope the actual shotgun will return.

If you hit them once with the Bulldog in close quarters, one melee will finish the job

You’re mistaken my friend. They said the Bulldog is not the shotgun we all know and love, and shortly after the July reveal they already told us they plan on adding the old shotgun into the game as well.

Oh. Yeah. It wasn’t as good at those slightly further distances, but I could still two-shot further than melee-range. Maybe I just got lucky with the spread.

I definitely think it could fire faster though. It feels too slow for its magazine size, and doesn’t quite reach as far as the Shotgun.
