Say what you want about the gameplay, but at the end when the Brute is just revealing in his victory to Cheif and challenges him, with him ending it with “Set a fire in your heart! Bare your fangs! Fight hard! Die well.” just sends a chill through me.
If 343 did anything absolutely right, is with that brute and speech. I can’t wait to face him in Infinite.
edit: I forgot the music, which really sets it all up to make one badass scene
Yep, it was awesome. Essentially Escharum is an old warrior seeking one final grand battle to seal his legacy. Compared to brutes in H2 and H3 Brutes (we don’t talk about Reach Brutes), he’s way more fleshed out as an actual character.
Yes, after all the downgrade in terms of graphics, animations, textures, etc… they at least improve dialogues, and charisma of their characters.
Halo 5 was a pity for that.
So yes good point for Halo Infinity

Halo 5’s characters have emotion. Just sadly not in the game. Everything they spoke about was strictly about the mission. Only bits and pans here and there of comedy just because of Buck.
Are you kidding me? That speech was so cringe-worthy, it literally reminded me of bad trash-talk in Wrestling.
I was expecting the Undertaker to appear out of the corner to challenge that gorilla to a match.
I really want to know more about how the Banished treat the UNSC. They almost seem to have a level respect for the humans despite Decimating (HW2 pun intend) them. I would love to have more scenes like that bit on the level “The Ark” from Halo 3 where you can 1v1 a brute chieftain while the rest stand around and watch. The Brutes have not been explored enough and having them as a main enemy is a great idea.
The speech honestly reminded me of something you’d hear on Beast Wars. Also didn’t help that the Brute looked like the Optimus Primal toy from the 90s.

You’re deaf and wouldn’t know good writing if you stumbled over it.
That aside…
Props to Darin De Paul for really owning the role. The feeling I got from this was an older brute chieftain looking for the ultimate challenge, taunting the Chief into action… and well, he’s about to get one.

I think it’s equal parts begrudging respect and predatory contempt. I think most forget that the Brutes are carnivores… and they are infamous for how they treat prisoners. They either abuse the heck out of them, or they eat them. They recognize the tenacity and courage of the UNSC’s forces, but make no mistake: they view humanity as playthings and food.

Maybe. Maybe not. But I definitely recognize bad writing, especially after that travesty that was H5G.
This was on the same level as that god-awful Tanaka speech on Sunaion.

You must be joking OP, that speech was the most melodramatic, cliched cringey -Yoink- I think I’ve ever heard in a videogame.
If I was Chief and I walked into a room only to be greeted by a giant gorilla hologram reciting what sounds like a generic 3 minute anime villain speech I’d probably just tell him to -Yoink!- and challege him to a 1v1 right there. On the flip side if I wanted to make Caesar real mad I’d turn his hologram off mid speech.
Just rewatched the meat canyon adventure time parody and swear Atriox and Tartar Sauces love child’s delivery of that speech sounds like Fin when he starts screaming about blood falling from the heavens.
For real though what’s the new brutes name? I can’t keep calling him Optimus Caesar and Atriox jr forever.

I heard worse, much worse. May I introduce you too “My face is tired of all this” or “That wizard came from the moon”?
