The biggest problem with halo is that its 'halo'

Halo has hit a downfall and is on shaky ground since 343i took over no one can deny that and in my opinion the biggest problem with halo 5 is that its a halo game.

I would personally like to thank 343 industries for making halo 5. 343 listened to us and made a metaphoric u-turn to change the colossal failures of halo 4 and MAKING A DAMN GOOD GAME however it was not a damn good halo game because it was never meant to be. Yes bungie made a brilliant new game in 2001 called halo and it was the flagship of Xbox however one thing that this community just can’t manage to wrap their head is that BUNGIE’S HALO ENDED WHEN THEY SIGNED AWAY THE FRANCHISE TO MICROSOFT.

Then in came 343I a new company eager to make a new halo based off the foundation of bungie’s most successful game and they wanted to reimagine it, make it a new innovative and imaginative game with new fast pace mechanics for the modern fast pace community, increased the competitiveness for the fast growing esports community, they didn’t just want to continue halo they wanted to reinvent it. And what did we do? We -yoinked- them over, we had little tantrums about how they changed the look of the shotgun and the rocket launcher, they decided that instead of shooting out the same old game types they would make some new ones like breakout, strongholds and WZ as a thanks as usual we just hated on them for not making another halo 3 and doing exactly what CoD does, I mean seriously people dismiss the new forge because the controls are different. 343I HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL but we suffocated them because we can’t let go of the original trilogy that was 10 years ago.

Dear 343I, I would like to personally thank you for making a bold move for not sitting on your -Yoinks!- and regurattating the same crap again and again and I forgive for making some stuff ups, however unfortunately we don’t want your game no matter how good it is, we just want the original trilogy till death to us part, which in all honesty makes me sick

Bungie Fanboy.

What was so bad about Halo 4? I enjoyed it and actually liked the ordnance drops as using any weapon in any map made the matches ao much more interesting.

Hey 343 said they were gonna talk about something that isnt halo wars 2 at e3! Halo 3, Aniversary?

No please… we don’t need that, they need to put that effort towards halo 6.

All I got from this was “I love Halo 5 and it’s the fans’ fault for not enjoying it, everyone laugh at these guys who just want another Halo 3”.

Just another non-constructive strawman thread that serves no point.

It was actually bungie that started the downfall of halo with reach btw. Most of the community loves halo 5 and how it plays, it’s just the other portion that want their “glory days” back. Honestly the change from 3 to 5 reminds me of the change from ce to 2. Everybody hated 2 but by the time halo 3 came (which had about 95% of the same mechanics), everybody loved it.

Nope… H5 has reinvigorated the series. Go back and play the originals after H5… they feel pretty outdated actually.

This game was built off of the original ideals of the series and modernized in a way that stays true to the Halo name. It’s an evolved take on the original formula. Truth is, it’s just maybe a little too little, too late. Reach and H4 (and MCC) has tarnished the brand for a lot of gamers.

Going forward though, I wouldn’t have Halo any other way, they just need to execute better with content and game modes next time around.

343s version of halo is like if counter strike added sprint it doesnt -Yoinking!- work

I’ve always contended 343i should never have made Halo 4, or 5. They should have made ODST games. The backlash would have been less, the freedom would have been more. But as we know, and as we saw, the title of ‘Halo 4’ had more sales potential. Even though it has hurt the brand in the long run, it was better for the short term profits.

Atleast 343i got sprint to be a standard that works fine with the gameplay unlike Bungie’s sprint as an AA…
I think people keep forgetting Bungie laid down the foundation for a lot of this crap with Reach.

I have gone back. I had to because Halo 5 is just plain generic. More over, me and my Halo buddies have had more fun on MCC voting in Halo 2 and 3 than we ever had on Halo 4 or 5. Fun gameplay is never outdated.

Not everyone feels like you do about Halo 5 “reinvigorating” the series. Especially if you look at sales and the low population (Halo 5 sits at 14th on the most played, people are over Halo 5 already).

And people -Yoinked!- and called for it to be removed. Don’t pass off blame from 343i for keeping it in while they removed other bad ideas like bloom.

Adapt.

It’s not about adapting, it’s about enjoying. I adapted to bloom and a return of the medpack health system, doesn’t make it more fun.

And yet still doesn’t work

I agree fun gameplay “can” never be outdated but at the same time it isn’t true, people wouldn’t ask for new games of the series if that were true. I’d play mcc more often if it had more people(credit to 343 for -Yoinking!- it up), but h5 multiplayer only is the best since h3 personally.

We we also need to scrap the sales crap, it sold 5 million by now which is more than enough, the issue is the game is supposedly lacking retention, that should be the focus, not the copy of sales. If I were ever in 343s shoes I could care less if I sold 50 million, or 1 million, I want to have my player come back every time rather than make sales but have them leave a month after. Many games sell MUCH less than what halo does yet they are able to retain a good portion of the fanbase.

Exactly. The biggest problem with Halo is not that it’s ‘Halo’. The biggest problem is that 343 had to see this exchange of hands as something it never should have been. An exchange of hands. The fans just want Halo, evolution and all, they don’t want “used to be Bungie’s” Halo or “is now 343’s” Halo.

What OP doesn’t seem to be able to wrap his head around is that it doesn’t matter who makes Halo.

Halo has a fanbase, and if you take over the franchise, we want the next one to be Halo. Otherwise we won’t buy it.

They made Halo 4, everyone bought it hoping it would be a Halo game, (9 million copies sold) and it wasn’t.
They made Halo 5, most true Halo fans were gone at this point, but some (like me) took the chance on 343 again, and bought the game. (Only 3 mili sold so far)

At the end of the day, love or hate the game, you can’t deny the fact that Halo 5 is the worst selling game in the entire franchise.

You know there’s a saying that goes: " If you want honey, don’t kick over the beehive. "
Or " Don’t bite the hand that feeds. " is a similar one.

And so you as well OP must not forget who’s really in charge of the Halo franchise. It’s the players.
And if your game isn’t what WE want, we won’t buy it.

That’s why Halo 5 is failing in the sales department. I’m not saying it hasn’t made them millions, don’t get me wrong. All I’m saying is that it objectively is the least popular game in the franchise with considerably less people deciding to buy it, than in the past.

If 343 was really just concerned about doing their own thing they should have started their own IP. This is Halo territory and they don’t get to decide what it should be.
