To be honest, I could care less about forcing challenges to get cosmetics. Its like that now in the MCC and I think it doesn’t bother me TOO much. I’m just worried about people not trying to play the game to win. If theres a challenge for sprinting a certain distance in a game, everybody will just be running instead of fighting. Bad example but you get my point. Its l**ame.
Agreed, ill say something I said in another post just like this one and that is they’re making it like the MCC, where after rank 100 you have to rely solely on challenges to get season points. Which is a terrible system that doesn’t incentives actually playing the game, but rather grinding out the few weekly challenges that give season points and then not playing until next week. It’s a flawed system that will only hurt the game. And it will hurt Infinite as well
Battlepass progression Locked behind Challenges WILL impact player behaviour in game. Halo should be about working as a team, completing match objectives and trying to beat the opposition. However players will now be forced into using particular weapons or modifying their playstyle to progress through the pass… this is completely ANTI-Halo. It incentivizes selfish gameplay that ruins the experience for the team as a whole.
This also ruins the experience for players like me who couldn’t care less for challenges… I enjoy playing Halo and earning XP towards my social rank like MCC… Challenge XP Should be a BONUS to regular match XP not the ONLY means.
I can see it now…
343 - “Don’t worry you will get challenges for simply completing games”
Me - Yeah cool thanks 343… However I’ve now lost 3 games in a row because my team mates are running around in open spaces trying to complete their 50 Kills with a bulldog challenge… I’m going to stop playing now.
It’s baffling to me how out of touch 343 can be with the Halo community? I look forward to hearing further explanations in an upcoming Waypoint blog on how this will be implemented.
I think if they make the challenges team focused, rather than individual focused, then they will promote players who actually work toward the games objective.
If the make challenges like “be the player to capture the flag 3 times”, then everyone is going to be betraying everyone for the flag.
I posted something similar of this If you want to read it:

Not every time it bout winning and it bout having fun. I rather Play matches to have a good time and not really pay too much of the challenges, As I really hate just focusing on challenges only to get xp. I rather earn XP from completing matches all cause I am having a good fun time whether if my team wins or lose. I hate challenges that are strictly towards wins only as that stress me out alot. or any game that rather focus it on challenges only to get any form of XP level up as it does kill lots of players that would love to spend there time getting xp from each match vs be able to get xp after like 10 per games to complete for example. I rather get some xp from completing matches cause of having fun regardless if it with randoms or friends.
I am not sure how this would work or if it will work at all. all other games I’ve played with a battle pass have had xp gain for completing a match with bonus XP for completing challenges and winning the match. I think if this system could work it would have been tried already.

I read your full post and I agree with all of it. But what I quoted here is my biggest issue. This is not just anti-Halo it’s anti-gaming imo. We should never be forced to play a certain way, options are always best imo. I for one will just not play, I’m not playing modes and using weapons I don’t like. It will hurt player retention, I have no doubt.

Well in ranked, if they decide to go for crazy challenges, they will lose and drop rank. So the challenges have 0 effect on ranked playlists.
In social, yes there absolutely will be people goofing off, not trying, or doing challenges. So is that a bad thing? I thought social is there to goof around and have fun.
I have to correct one of your statements. Everyone will not be doing challenges. There is a chance some people during a social match will be doing challenges. My apologies if that statement of yours was not to be taken literally.
so in any social match, there will be a mix of people goofing around, playing serious, doing challenges, and it will be mostly random.
I really dont see much of a change from past Halo games. In fact, back in Halo 3, I remember getting bombarded with messages about allowing them to get a double laser kill for achievements. I remember playing matches for the sole purpose of getting a achievement in Halo 3.

This. Of the 2/3 challenges you probably get maybe 1 will be somewhat specific for which you adept certain choices and that’s really not that impactful…During the flight you didn’t even have to read them because only the weeklies were specific enough not to just happen in 2 days of playtime.
If you want people to have no reasons to do things except winning remove statistics, medals and carnage reports etc. all together. For example so many people queue OBJ game types just to hang back and work on their K/D and that has way more impact on gameplay then “kill 3 Spartans with the bulldog”.
Maybe I’m too old but I never got the play focused on the progression-carrot-on-a-stick instead of just enjoying the game. The BP is a 3 month track in which they also take casual play into account, you can probably miss 5 days of challenges and still get to the end (only basing this on other games with BP’s ofc and the player first mentality).
