The big problem of battle pass progression

You know, I thought the xp boosts would be a multiplier for challenges. So say the challenge gives you 200 xp, the xp boost doesn’t have you get 400 xp instead?

So they really are completely useless then? That’s infuriating as you obviously don’t get any xp at the end of the match so what is their true purpose?

Could not agree more with OP! I absolutely hate this system.

It seems so generic and basic with no thought about players time or satisfying rewards. Just buy pass, do challenges, rank up pass and get same rewards for as everyone else. I though Infinite would break away from the gaming model trends of other games and do its own thing, but instead we have a clone of every other Battlepass with the exception that it does not expire.

Infinite needs a complete and robust Commendation system with unique rewards for completion. Infinite needs a base game XP and reward system for just playing the game and doing challenges tied to all gameplay. Infinite needs more ways to earn unlocks and rewards other than a BP and a storefront. Infinite needs to be better than the rest, but right now its following the herd instead of leading. Disappointing!

How exactly?

People want an experience that is actually worth their time… otherwise what is the point in 343 even making the game. 343 have only shot themselves in the foot by making it feel like you really arent progressing. Instead it is 343 that are looking to get short term serious profits from the game.

Having a system to work towards is fun and rewarding to the end user. Having the current system just makes it feel like a chore and its boring!

Why the hell don’t i get my Credits from the tech preview. I had 2.500 Credits that o was saving because i can’t spend 70 dollars for campaign and battlepass so why don’t beta testers get there Credits.

Oh no, you’re correct. The thing about the boosts are that they only apply if and when you receive EXP. Its a bit disconcerting that you have this EXP boost but still earn 0 EXP due to a challenge not counting/bugged, or a missed opportunity. Not entirely useless, just ineffective.

On the topic of challenges not counting, I still have ‘Heatwave kill’ and 'Mangler kill" bugged for me. I’ve done what the challenge called for, but no EXP was rewarded, and challenge progress hasn’t changed. So that’s pretty cool.

The game only came out yesterday, so let’s all just see what 343 can muster up.

Pretty much exactly expressed how I’m feeling as well. Commenting for visibility :grinning:

Currently loadouts are confined to the AR and a pistol, with the BR, Sniper and (on select maps) Rocket Launcher available. I recall in earlier Halo games there was an SMGa and Grenade Launcher, though I haven’t seen those. I have also seen a drum shotgun and the Hydra.

I’m not sure about loot boxes, but use of weapons over an extended period could allow them to be unlocked as custom loadouts, with the exception of Custom Game mechanics. In a similar vein, use of vehicles could unlock variants, such as the Warthog’s Missile Launcher or Gauss Rifle. Completing challenges with either could also rewards skins to be applied to weapons and vehicles, instead of exclusively buying them from the ingame store.

I totally didn’t even think about the in-game currency. There should be alternative means to get it. A rework of the challenge system should have weekly challenges that are a bit longer, but reward more XP AND currency.

Think of Destiny 2 as you may, but if 343 implemented something similar in terms of obtaining microtransaction currency, it would be great for Infinite.

Um, what? Custom Loadouts go against whole foundation of Halo as an Arena shooter.

Also there is currently no SMG in Infinite.

We do have to remember that the Battle Pass will NEVER go away, not saying its ideal. But that is an upside at least. They do need to make changes though.

I did suggest in another thread that every Lvl earned could reward players 50 credits - thereby at Lvl 20, those hadn’t at least purchased a Battle Pass, can, or use it on things in the store.

The only real issue is, everything in the store costs 500 credits or more. Besides bundles, it would be nice to have individual armor pieces, shaders or AI/Keychains in the mix, too, which rotate out on a monthly basis whilst the Epic/Legendary stuff does weekly. Then 343 would have lead-time to make more gear.

Round two of attempting to reply-

The game is fun, this battlepass is really disappointing. Challenges only, with challenges for specific weapons and game modes. You can’t PICK your game modes, and I started being that guy and quitting when it queued me into game modes I didn’t need, which I’m not proud of. Or, challenges to use specific weapons, so instead of picking what seems useful you need to hunt down those weapons and play differently for the XP. It doesn’t expire (perhaps only if you buy it, according to some people?), but I still feel that it is both very slow, AND warping the gameplay in harmful ways.

Ideally, it should be changed to be a bit more rewarding, and to de-emphasize challenges that affect how you play. Give match XP, with more XP gained on a win than a loss to ensure that people will always play objectives and find worth in each match.

I also don’t like how many PvP challenges there are. I am not a big fan PvP and I rather do PvE. I wish they do more PvE. Or maybe I am just unlucky and get majority of the PvP challenges and only a rare few of the PvE challenges. What do you guys think?

I agree, not only is it slow and restrictive, many challenges force the player to play PVP, that may not seem like such a big deal, but for a casual such as myself, having to fight other people is generally not a good experience, especially with my internet.

I feel like what makes it even worse is that 343 probably already knew that the challenge based progression system was garbage but went with it anyways.
The reason why I think this is because the VAST majority of the free rewards are literally just “challenge swaps”, implying that 343 knew that most people would hate the challenge they were given and they’d want to change it for a better/easier challenge.

Im afraid that 343 block this post, sooo be afraid folks even that this post was made 8 days ago. Jajajaj. I am the first one in tell you all.

Then you prefer a bad battle pass progression instead of a good one?

I’m just saying there are good aspects of the BP.
