The Big Elephant Team in the Battle Room

I’m calling you a troll because you continue to argue against clear and present facts and statistical data.

You can like Halo 4 all you want, that is a matter of opinion.
You are among the 20,000 so players in the Halo fandom that like it.

But is it statistically the best Halo title?
No.
It was the first of 343’s mistakes of the franchise.
They doubled down on it in Halo 5.
And now they are finally making decisions in the right direction, though they aren’t executing these changes with grace given how glitchy Halo Infinite is.

End of discussion.

I’ll disagree. Halo 4 was a pretty solid game in hindsight. Ok maps, a decent class system etc. the only thing that hampered my enjoyment of it as a kid was my terrible internet.

That’s also how I found out the sentinel beam has a finite range. Kind of annoying lol

I don’t agree with this sentiment at all. 343 back tracked nearly every major gameplay change that H4 did wrong in H5. The focus returned to equal starts arena shooter gameplay.

I really dislike when people try and compare the H5 spartan abilities to Reach/H4 abilities. They function and balance in completely different ways since everyone gets the same combat mechanics in H5. The overall gameplay in H5 is way closer to the original trilogy than H4, it’s just more fast paced (a little too fast imo)

We’re not talking about statistically the best halo, we’re talking about the best conceptually.

The hit detection alone was miles better than any halo

Could be worse, like getting to drop air strikes after a spree.

Here is my take:
CE had the best Vehicle mechanics

  • indestructible, floaty physics, no extra health or shield to player

Halo needs something closer to this.

  • more impact to physics by Frags and explosions
  • indestructible or less likely to explode as your means to killing it
  • no shield or defense benefit for being in Vehicle (ie same magnetism to player)
  • 1 Dynamo grenade at each base or spawn area (treat it more like Energy Drain)
  • more Rockets as main anti-Vehicle weapon (do they even spawn on BTB maps?)
  • less stun effects by shock weapons (maybe make it take multiple shots or stun less time)

Ideally, you should be able to engage or defend against a Vehicle moments after you spawn. You should not feel as though you must run inside somewhere before the Vehicle gets to you.

I like it. As I said, I’m not talking about being antivehicle heavy because vehicles are super strong, but it needs a balance so that the team that Gets the free wasp or tank drop doesn’t win the game by default.

A hydra at each base that has a medium length spawn timer at minimum would solve a lot of this.

I’m also talking about the art style they went with, as well as their soundtracks that were weird.

you forget that later in 4’s life span they did away with personal drops, unless the “infinity” mode popped up. halo should always have fixed vehicles, weapons and power ups. this random bs throws too much luck into the game. IMO all they need to give us for btb is H4’s Ragnarök with mantises and a laser

are you kidding H5’s maps were beautiful coli, plaza, even my least favorite map truth was still very well made unlike the bland ones H;I, and H4 in general was stunning on the 360 and its grapics still hold up in MCC, in fact H4 looks insanely better than Inf.

They backtracked the more realistic, sharper look of 4 and 5 and made it look more like an HD 3. Rounder, sort of cartoony but not in a bad way.

I’m not so sure they didn’t do this to appeal to fortnite players over cod players. Just my speculations

Uh, not to intrude, but you actually can zoom in with the railgun in Halo 4, if you toggle it while charging the weapon. True, you snap out of it upon firing, but there is at least some zoom functionality that people can make use of, if not an intentional design choice. That may be what he is referring to.

H3 was the pinnacle of btb. Hell it was nearly perfect in everything, btb, 4v4 and ranked. SWAT was actually fun and action sack was great.

Maps generally were nearly all good. Equipment was highly useful.

Spawn points were very good. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run to a power weapon/vehicle only to have a teammate spawn next to what I’m after and take it.

We don’t always agree but yes, BTB is a hot horrid mess and needs to be like it used to be. This is a pretty worthless take on the mode and I do not want it.

I’d definitely enjoy some reliable vehicle and weapon spawns. I liked the good times of knowing each base will have a tank that occasionally re-spawns. Knowing where I can pick up my sniper rifle each game (among other weapons) was fun as well. It’s interesting to have featured weapons like those dropped by pelicans, but it’s sad when I play a big team game where the only available pistol is Plasma. I like Plasma for 4v4, but it’s entirely meaningless to me in BTB, and I never see anyone else use it either. It’s especially lame when I have a challenge that needs a Mangler kill, but I can’t reliably find it in any game (unless it’s NOT required, then I find it frequently…) I’d also love to have respawning mounted turrets. The plasma and machine gun turrets are only ever around for the 1st minute of each game, and then they’re gone for good.

I think we’re agreeing . As long as each team gets the same stuff at the same times in a match z I’m totally cool the stuff changing game to game (like both teams getting skewers on Fragmentation one game, but in the next game on that map you play both teams get a sniper).

Even on High Power (very asymmetrical) and Dead Lock (slightly asymmetrical) the same weapons should appear on each team’s side of the map in the same “relative” locations.

I guess I would be ok with the current BTB setup being in rotation. It’s basically an “Infinity Slayer 2.0” approach to BTB. But I do hope we get the emphasis on equal gameplay back in BTB to some degree

It wouldn’t be so bad if, as I mentioned in the OP, the weapons weren’t so different in quality. They STILL have a Ravager spawn instead of a hydra for instance, and that’s not even close to a good comparison

This is exactly what I keep saying about the current format of BTB it’s a mix of regular BTB and Heavies but nothing is consistent match to match so there’s no strategy involved like there was with H3 and Reach’s BTB game modes. It feels more like play soldiers in a game of CoD than a war games training simulator that Halo’s MP has always been
