In the Beta trailer that Spartan Ability with the Thruster pack Ground Pound seems to have the same effect as the Gravity Hammer. This Ground Pound that can take out multiple Spartans in one hit is very troublesome. Also the Shoulder Charge is basically the Sword Lounge. I know some people are glad AA’s are gone but they were all pretty much defensive. I liked that there were no AA’s that killed, you still had to earn those. I’m Speculating that Spartan Abilities are a different class of Armor Abilities. AA’s Defensive and SA’s Offensive.
I see people say we spawn with these Spartan abilities and I just think its strange 343i is saying equal starts and going back to halo’s roots if they are basically letting everyone spawn with sword and hammer abilities. Who knows what else the slide could do, Flip a warthog?
It was a CGI trailer, nothing nothing specific about the SAs is confirmed, and your complaint is completely unfounded.
That said, they will probably be highly situational, like you need to fall from so far for a groundpound, or you need to pick up speed to do a tackle and it throws people farther, instead of killing in one hit.
> Its an observation not a compliant. I did say “I’m Speculating”, right?
Fair point, but given the tone your post, it feels like you’re coming up with ideas about the SAs and the complaining about them.
We haven’t seen any gameplay yet though, so worrying about an ill defined concept is at best, jumping the gun.
> It might be jumping the gun, but have you seen all the Sprint Hate Bashing, I think this might make their heads Explode.
Sprint wouldn’t make my head explode if it was implemented properly (which I’m convinced there’s no way to do.
If SA’s are implemented properly than I don’t mind at all. Don’t try to act like “they don’t like sprint therefor they hate everything new” when the hate for sprint has been explained probably more than anything else on this forum.
Besides, I’m not sure why (besides the name) SA’s are so heavily compared to AA’s. Saying SA’s shouldn’t be offensive is like saying meleeing or shooting shouldn’t be offensive.
I have serious doubts that Halo 5’s multiplayer will consist of players launching from mancannons into the middle of the map, on a platform out in space, especially since we have been given screens of a midship render. It stands to reason that we can also doubt we’ll see anything along the lines of ground-pounding or shoulder-charging. That said, admittedly it is far too early to assume anything.
As for the ground pound, we don’t know if it is simply the ability to quickly get to the ground to get out of the way, or if it is an actual offensive ability. However, we don’t know the whole idea behind SAs other than it seems to be a flexible Thruster pack. Maybe the ground pound leaves the player at a vulnerable state, allowing for a counter attack? Maybe its for the player to get to descend quickly? It’s too early to tell since there has been no information other than that they are given to everyone equally as a new mechanic that players can use in combat.
As for the charge, it could be an assassination animation, and we only see the first half. In Halo 4, we can thrust and punch, at least as the flood. Maybe they’re allowing it here? It may not be as bad since others can simply back up if the thruster pack idea is true.
Again, it’s too early to call anything, other than that it is a CGI trailer that teases the audience to look forward to the beta with the purchase of the MCC.

Even if these perform as you speculate they can be balanced quite easily. A ground pound can be avoided or have its damage mitigated by jumping which would leave the attacker being shot at while he recovers from the animation. The lunge will, in all likelihood, only be in a single direction and designed to get in close for a melee kill, leaving them open to fire for the entire animation which means the beat down can easily be used against them.

This
I wouldn’t read too much into a cgi teaser trailer.
Also I don’t see why this discussion is taking place as if things have been confirmed OP, but you know nothing has. It’s a ways down the road to be really worrying about this, when next to nothing has been elaborated on. Spartan Abilities will be equal starts no matter how you re-word it. IF everyone is having a hammer ability, then everybody will be on equal terms. We already have a Spartan Ability called melee, and it involves killing too, so I think you’re jumping a bit too soon.
Yeah, that is my concern as well. It’s early to pass judgement but I don’t think I am a fan of default thruster packs or a default area of effect melee ability period. If its an instant kill that will suck.
Spartan Abilities have been compared to things like vehicle boarding and dual-wielding, things everyone can do yet rely on certain factors. I don’t really see a contradiction in terms of them being in a game with an arena focus yet.

This would also include Ledge Grabbing, yes? I see a lot of bashing that to.

I’ve never really seen anyone propose that and/or the hate it has received. However, I don’t really see much of a practical purpose for it. I suppose it could work though if done right.

If Ledge grabbing ever made it, I ask that it at least not be clingy based. So have the user press A again to grab a ledge that is really in range.
What I don’t like about Ledge grabbing:
1.Leaves user weaponless and vulnerable like Sprint
2.Can make CQC op with melee/melee weapons
3.Randomness in the fact that there is absolutely know telling what weapon the enemy will pop up with. Can potentially slow the game with this “surprise” sort of play. Getting a headshot would require you to get up close to the “ledge camper”
You had better hope that the hands are visible, but even then, I’m not sure I’d like this idea. I rather the player make the choice to fall or stay on higher ground, no in between…

On one hand, it could make map maneuverability quicker, but still with a cost…
