In my opinion, the best way to save Infinite and bring in players that have abandoned the game as well as appeal to new players is to dedicate the bulk of development energy towards a really good multiplayer PvE experience (think Warzone Firefight from Halo 5 only bigger and better).
Forge and a Custom Game Browser is a big deal too, however, that primarily appeals to just casual players. A major PvE mode or modes would appeal to a broader spectrum of players and could be a endless continuation of the Academy which seems to be the route 343 is already taking. If done right, it could become one of, if not, the biggest draw to the game.
I also think this would be a great way to incorporate weapon and vehicle variants into the game. Many of them wouldn’t mesh well with Multiplayer pvp modes but could be integrated nicely in a PvE mode or large scale PvP (thinking of like a significant segment of the Campaign map with dozens of players).
Just my opinion. This would appeal to me greatly and would keep me invested in the game for years to come.

Have a different developer not associated with microsoft take over.
No more challenge system as primary means of progression.
Dont release a barebones game.
Dont wait 6 months to release barebones content and leave your community hanging lol.
Dont wait 3 years to release a coop mode and mission replay lol.
I could sit here all day but imma go play something other than halo bc they have more content lololol.
I’m waiting for something like Halo 5’s Warzone Firefight to be added before I try out the mp. I don’t care about pvp at all, but the team based pve stuff I had fun with. Now that Flood Firefight is a thing in ODST, it would be cool if Infinite could have something like that too.
