Most of us know the story of Installation 07, or at the very least are aware of it’s history with the Flood and the Precursor knows as the Primordial, as well as the ring’s ties to ancient Humanity.
But Halo Infinite seems to be focusing on it’s fresh new faction, The Banished. And we know that the story is a direct continuation of Halo 5: Guardian’s Created story. So we could potentially have The Banished and Prometheans and the Flood. That’s alot to handle! How would we keep track of this and implement this without muddying the story and adding so much that it becomes poor? Here’s my thought.
You can split the narrative, first of all. We know that multiplayer will have it’s own expanding storyline, and they could introduce another faction as part of that mode’s story without touching Campaign’s narrative. or, implement and add The Flood as an expansion to the base game. DLC, as most of you know it to be called. Banished will rule the main story, as well as possibly the Prometheans (Due to the Created). Those two factions alone could give us a ton to work with. IF the Flood does return, and it is possible due to the Flood containment on Installation 07, I believe they will return as a result of a battle gone awry during a story Expansion for the game.
It’s not impossible to have this many factions in one game either, I’ve seen other games do it with no problem. It’s just a matter of shifting focus and doing what Combat Evolved liked to do, which is have multiple factions fight at once at times.
Infinite is a bit of a ‘reboot’… so I think they will resell the narrative of Halo:CE.
Chief on a new Ring. Chatting / explaining things to the Pilot as he explores the ring, fighting the covenant (Banished), and figures out what is going on. Essentially explaining the story to new players as he goes.
You can run into a monitor… find the index in a library… and so on.
And along the way it would be very easy to run into the Flood.

Later in the game Chief runs into new Cortana. The dialogue then switches from Chief-Pilot to baby Cortana. This opens up an exposition on what’s up with Cortana and the Guardians.
They essentially finish the fight with the Banished over zeta-Halo but are now set up to continue Halo 5 in the next game / DLC.

I’ve said this in other threads, but I don’t see the flood being a major player at launch. I see them more relegated to mentions/Easter eggs at the beginning. Now down the line it’s more likely that they get added in to some degree in a dlc/expansion similar in nature to Halo Wars 2. If Infinite launches at a T rating there’s a zero chance of the flood. If it’s an M rating then there’s a much stronger chance.
I really hope the Flood come as a surprise. The feeling that something isn’t quite right, and the creepy atmosphere of the carnage filled rooms absent of life before the Flood onslaught begins is so awesome.
One thing is for sure though. If the Flood are censored and do not have dismemberment like they did in Halo 3 they should not return. Either do it right, or not at all.
One point I’ve heard is that the Flood and Banished would be too many factions to deal with at once. I really disagree with this. The Flood are designed to be a 3rd party combatant. They are meant to intercept and complicate battles.
At this point I’d be grateful if they were at least spawnable in Forge though.
I still believe that we are going to see the Flood coming back in the upcoming Halo Infinite. It is very likely that the Flood will appeared later in one of the Halo Infinite campaign levels. At the same time, 343 Industries want to keep their return as a surprise.
