The Best Loss I've Ever Had...

I just made a post about my issues with having two mental disabilities that definitely place a cap on how well I can play any title and why I think all Practice Makes Perfection challenges should be allowed not only for PVP matches but Bot matchmaking as well.

That’s not what this is about. This is about the reason why I made that post. I’m not a persona who sees the good in everyone. More often than not, people are terrible to each other over the internet due to the anonymity it provides them. As such, I have been harassed, tunneled and even kicked out of games before because of these issues holding me back. Halo is no exception. While better than most, I typically don’t get to see the good side of the Halo community. Much less to the extent I had tonight during my last game for this weekend…

I load into a match and it’s Slayer. The worst game mode for me as I actually have to confront players instead of sneakily taking objective from under their noses. I’ll just do my best to make it through this match and try for CTF AGAIN after the last several times as for some reason, I can not get ANY objective-based game modes to finish my last weekly challenge. I wasn’t even getting Strongholds either! ONLY SLAYER! Once again, the enemy team is wiping the floor with us as has been the usual since the start of this flight. But slowly, without my knowledge, my team was dwindling in numbers. First there were four… Then three… Then two… Then me… I watched as the last player left. Wondering if he was being replaced by a bot like the system was touted to do in case of team members quitting mid-match. I open the scoreboard to find that I was now all alone against a team of three members; of whom are WAAAYYYY over my skill level! As I saw an enemy Spartan run past me, not realizing where I am. I shoot him to get his attention. Wanting to get this game over with. He kills me and I respawn but it isn’t long before the same player found me again. I shot him to get his attention before turning my back to him and walking… But he didn’t shoot me. I turned back around to see if he did know where I was and he was just standing there. Looking at me. Most likely checking the scoreboard in hindsight. He then proceeded to do the unthinkable in my mind… He crouched twice. The universal gesture of a friendly truce. I crouched twice back and he walked up to me, staring me in my Rampant visor for a moment before turning around and leaving, grabbing his buddies and coming back over to me with them. We all crouched, spun around and began hitting each other without killing each other. A couple of them started shaking their heads at me. I nodded mine in response, they reciprocated before I did the same. After which, they immediately started shaking their heads. I got the feeling they were offering me a way out. A way to end the match, it being a victory for them but not a humiliating one for me. They let me go out and lose on my own terms, by my own choice rather than by their hands or because I am both physically and mentally incapable of being as good as they are to even stand a chance against them. So with that last interaction, I hit the escape button on my keyboard and quit the match.

I doubt they’ll read this but if any of them do… Thank you. All three of you. You gave me the chance to end my night on a positive note instead of the sour one it was most likely going to end on. You and those few like you are what makes this community so amazing at times. Thank you for letting me end my night and this weekend’s flight on a positive note after my team had abandoned me and thank you to those of you out there who do the same for other poor abandoned souls. It’s because of you that I decided to make these two posts. Knowing that there ARE people in this community who are willing to show kindness and respect to other player. Whether they can play the game as well as you or not. Thank you to everyone out there in this community who does this! I hope to see you all next weekend! And last but not at all least… Thank you for reading.
-Sincerely, Samuel(MrLegohaloman7)

P.S. To those of you scum who ragequit matches just because they aren’t going well… A hearty ‘-Yoink- you’!

This seriously put a smile on my face.

> Knowing that there ARE people in this community who are willing to show kindness and respect to other players.

It’s an awesome experience when you come across these type of players.

I normally don’t read large walls of text, but you kept me intrigue throughout, you’re a good writer.

Keep that same energy and always stay positive my friend!
Hope to see you next weekend.

Thank you! Hearing that from a stranger instead of a friend really helps as I am trying to write a couple things. Thank you for reading my wall of text and I hope to see you next weekend as well!
