The beckoning question

As we played the first Halo,we are introduced to some of the key characters. Master Chief, Sergeant Johnson, Captain Keyes, 343 Guilty Spark, Foehammer, and the flood. As the story developed, more characters were brought into light such as Lord Hood, Miranda Keyes, Arbiter, Shipmaster, the Prophets, the Drones, the gravemind, 2401 Penitent Tangent, and the Brutes. We have all seen the death of Keyes, Johnson, 343, Miranda, Truth, and one of the best, Cortana. But as the story developed,it has mainly focused on one man, the Master Chief. We have seen him grow and evolve as each character comes and goes. But the question is this,is the Master Chief a human or a machine?

Human. Very much a human. Objectively Human. He just wears armors that run Windows 10.

Both.

Neither Chief is just a bunch of pixels.

He’s a cyborg but is mostly human.

He’s Human, flesh and bone…
He has augmentations which help him be a bad -Yoink- but he has no mechanical parts (I guess you could count the Neural implant) but he is defintley not a cyborg!

Maybe both?

Negative, he is a Meat Popsicle

10 points for a Fifth Element reference.

He’s most definitely human. I think Bungie wanted him to be more, that’s why the level in CE said something about Cyborgs off the POA first, but the rest of the canon establishes him to be most definitely human. The only thing really cybernetic about him is the same neural implant that every UNSC service member gets at induction (according to FoR) so if that makes him a cyborg then every soldier, airman, marine and sailor in universe is also a cyborg.

He’s as human as any other soldier in the UNSC.

the definition of “Cyborg” is Here.

John can live and operate out of his armor just fine. The only thing he has that constitutes as “aided by or dependent upon a mechanical or electronic device” is his neural implant. Which every soldier in the UNSC has, just maybe different versions. So either everyone is a cyborg, or none of them are. The rest of his augmentations do not fall under the parameters of an electronic or mechanical device.

That’s deep man, how old are you?

I’d say when it comes to S-II’s and III’s they’re trained to be somewhere between human and machine.

Something, something, something great minds and all.

Trawling the forums on my lunch and came across a Fifth Element reference. Not only that but two others got the reference too. Faith in the Halo community restored. Well played gentlemen.
