The battle pass has another problem

The progression system is already is a joke, but there’s also another problem with the battle pass. Watch the multiplayer overview video again and they said that

“A lot of our stuff is unlocked through playing the game, and only by playing the game.”

Yet I see people already at max tier by spending hundreds of irl currency and with the current progression system, it’s impossible to reach max tier within 3 days since launch. Monetizing progression is one thing, but when you outright lie and saying most of the stuff is earned by playing the game is beyond ridiculous. I haven’t found more than 1 item that is earned just by playing the game.

If you don’t count boosts/challenge swaps there are 23 free items in the battle pass, everything else you have to buy the premium pass to unlock.

I free cosmetic every 4 levels doesn’t feel like very much.

Edited my post since I forgot 1 crucial point. You can also level up by paying currency, which makes all items in the battle pass unlockable without playing a match. I was expecting exclusive unlocks by playing the game and not spending real money towards unlocks and level skips.

Also this is not related to infinite but what is going on with my account? Every time I make an edit or reply my account switches

Yeh this feels like they mislead us. Nobody should be earning unlocks that fast. People should be able to earn all rewards within game without feeling punished for not wanting to pay for MT. It’s scary how people are trying to defend this type of behaviour from 343i. The fact that we can’t earn credits irritates me.

I get it, it’s free to play and they got to make money somehow, but this is definitely not what I was expecting. You play games to earn rewards, that’s what keeps the replayability. going.
I wouldn’t mind spending the premium battle pass and sometimes cosmetics in the shop but spending real currency to level up is just sad.

I think those will be available through campaign and the fracture events (first one is next week)

If that’s true, at least people who are on game pass and those who bought the game will get something. But I’m mostly talking about the battle pass and level up skips.

There are weekly challenge rewards that are only unlocked by playing

Your mistake is assuming what we see in the Season 1 main Battlepass is everything we’ll have for the entirety of the Season.
Throughout Season 1 (Starting on the 23rd) we will have special events that have their own Battlepasses and game modes, and they will be 100% FREE. 100% Free with no premiums whatsoever, all unlocked by playing the game. Again that starts next week on the 23rd with the Yoroi event

OP is saying that battle pass can not only be unlocked by playing the game, but also purchasing tiers using microtransactions, which doesn’t make it exclusive to just by playing the game. Didn’t say it was lacking content regardless of you have premium or not.

I think when 343 said most items could be unlocked by simply playing, they were talking about armor, armor effects, emblems etc as a whole and not on an individual basis.
That being said I do agree and I made a post describing a very specific method 343 could use to allow us to have the ability to unlock everything in-game by making Credits into an in-game currency earned by completing the capstone challenge and the free event battlepasses, thus allowing f2p players access to the store and the entire Battlepass

They verbatim said stuff on BP can’t be bought on the store and thus can’t be circumvented to be purchased outright, but buying levels does exactly that. Here’s the video.

The fact that they’re limited time events is a big problem though. They can be dropped once a week, but the time restriction has the same problem of forcing people to play a specific way. For example one challenge is get a bulltrue. So all week all you’re doing is trying to unlock that challenge, then trying to kill a lunging swordie. That isn’t a weekly challenge, that’s monthly at best, but they should really not be limited time

They are limited time but they are returning events, similar to the Iron Banner or Trials of Osiris from Destiny. If you miss out it’s no worries because it’ll just come back, at least with most events.

Not the events, the weekly unlocks. The ones you have to complete challenges to unlock challenges you have to complete to unlock the item. Those unlockables shouldn’t be limited to a week to unlock.

@Rethal_Sepsis I apologize if i’m not making sense. I’m half asleep and stuck at work lmao

I agree with what you’re saying, my mind is all over the place bro. I hope the Capstone rewards come back and they’re not only available for the one week

The problem isn’t that they’re challenge unlocks, it’s that you have to complete all the challenges to unlock the challenge to unlock the item, within a limited time.

THIS is what’s causing people to quit games that don’t help their challenges, and to play selfishly instead of playing the objective. They only care about completing their weekly challenges.

By removing the time limit, or allowing people to attempt the “capstone” outright, it completely mitigates the problem. All that remains from the challenges then is XP, which - if mitigated by the band aid fix - isn’t really an issue any more.

Ah okay same page-ish then lmao. I just think that

  1. The challenge for each capstone should be specific to THAT capstone. Not random challenges for different people.
  2. The capstone challenges and unlocks should be dropped once a week
  3. They should be completable indefinitely after they are dropped

I see what you mean. I kind of like the idea of having that cool weekly item to unlock but if it causes problems in-game, then it should be revised. it’d be cool to have the Capstone maybe be similar to Halo 3 unlocks, where they are attached to an Achievement or special challenge that can be completed anytime for free. Good idea bro

Exactly. Glad I got my point across.
I’m fine with it still being dropped weekly, but the current situation is that - just as much as people wanting to gain XP quickly - it causes people to ONLY play for their challenges.

And since

  1. We can’t work all our challenges at once, only a select few
  2. We have to complete ALL challenges before even unlocking the capstone
  3. Capstone challenges themselves can be damn tough and luck-based

The fact is that, even if XP is fixed/band-aided, people are still going to play selfishly and grind for the capstone challenge, every single week, which deeply affects gameplay (quitting, playing for some random thing rather than playing the objective).

Those people will also be playing gametypes they don’t even WANT to play, just for the challenges. It just ruins the experience for everyone.
