The bar has been set monstrously low

I couldn’t post about this yesterday as i had no access to my account, so im talking on it now.

Before the event even came out, i had suspicions, i had tin foil hat conspiracy’s about how the event would be handled and they all came to fruition.

A “free” event where 90% of the armour is locked behind the MTX store, and to my surprise, the event is time gated for months to drag the player along or encourage them to pay for a 20$ Bundle to have some armour for their core.

I knew this event would be the straw that broke the camels back in this community, and im glad people are fighting back against this, i would like to recap the lies and manipulation we have been fed by 343i for the last year and a half so we can all remember that this company is completely okay with lying but also screwing over loyal customers.

Lets begin with the lies.

  • “we dont want this game to become a chore”
With 200 hours needed to complete the battlepass that almost seems more like a job then a chore.
-“we will have thousands of customization options day one for players, and most can be earned through gameplay and only gameplay”
This is one is just flatout untrue, i dont think i need to go into why.
  • “we are coming at this with a player first mindset”
I will pay anyone 1000$ and pay their battlepass if they can convince me any of this was done for the player,

These are from the multiplayer overview which is now taken down off waypoint, along with multiple other threads with info regarding this system just being flatout untrue and at worst lying, full damage control mode on that end.

And onto the manipulation, this event advertised the awesome yoroi armour, i have been hyped about it since the trailer (even though i enjoy lore friendly armour more i was more then happy to grind for this awesome armour set) only to find out thag what was advertised is no where to be found, instead we get a core thats lackluster to everything we were shown, and even worse, to get any armour for it we have to wait months on end, or drop 20$ on a bundle

This event was meant to provide free players with meaningful content but provides almost nothing, it takes 6 months to earn the helmet and attachment, and heres what else your missing
-kneepads
-wrists
-colours
There isnt a single colour for the yoroi armour core in the event, only the bundles, thats counting the red and blue colours too
And aside from the event, the leaks showing reach armour locked behind the store echos what ive been saying for months, they are not above trying to sell 10 year old armour for people with nostalgia boners
(All content in the store coming out to a total 1035$US, which is 1309$ CAD where i live)

This whole event was manipulative with its marketing, instead of grinding for cool armour im window shopping the cool stuff and lamenting the stuff i got for free, especially since its time gated, my event is done since im done the challenges and i now have to wait till January to participate again.

343 has set the bar so low for this games multiplayer monetization.

Offer your thoughts in the comments, i already know ill be seeing 4 or 5 distinct people here, so before you guys even comment, does your comment read along the lines of “it doesnt matter to me or him so why does it matter to you” or “its free to play they have to make money” or “i remember the days of ce when we had just colours, why is everyone up in arms about this” then i kindly ask you to find another thread to derail :^)

(EDIT: im also going to leave my ideas to fix this system down here for people interested)
-make battlepass a cash purchase, not credits
-add credits to battlepass ( 5,000 or something )

  • add passive credits to premium or campaign customers (like roblox with tics) at a rate of 25 a win, 5 for a loss
-offer the ability to view armour separately in price in the customization menus, allowing you to buy the specific piece you want

That’s the point - set the bar ridiculously low with insane monetization and progression so that when they ‘adjust them’ it seems good by comparison.

This isn’t new and at this point should be considered monetization 101 when it comes to games.

I agree, i hope people are able to take the rose tinted glasses off when fixes come out because i doubt any fix coming soon will provide anything meaningful to the system, this needs to be hated so that we never see this kind of aggressive and predatory monetization in halo ever again.

I really hope people continue to voice concern about how this game was monetized, we lost a lot in the transition to free-to-play & it’ll only persist if people give up after a week.

If the thousands of customizations are here on the 8th (day one/launch day) after “beta” ends i will not say another bad thing about this company. We all know what we have now is everything they had to offer. Not only is the event awful the pictures for it show the cool samurai helmet thats not included in the pass and I’ve not seen it in the store yet.

If the game comes out on the 8ths with this then yes, ill shut my mouth for good, but im not seeing it, along with the rumour that campaign having no armour unlockables, its not leaving with much hope about it

Hey, we all have our ways of naming things, and i think that wildly inappropriate and kind of sexual names are funny, it was also 3 years ago i switched the name so maybe its due for a new one.
Please keep the discussion on the topic at hand though, i would really like to keep the thread from derailing off topic as much as possible

This is the last reply i will grant you because you’re either an obvious troll or a child. But someone defending themselves from a tool on the internet doesnt equal them being guilty, that is a strawman, do you believe people in court who defend themselves are guilty?
My last name was reported and changes yes, 4 years ago, and ive had this name steady since then with no issue, if it was a problem then it would be changed again.
If i send you the name of the artist and the piece would you even look at it? Or are you so stuck in this idea that my account is promoting NSFW material that any evidence contrary to your opinion isnt worth looking over?
I dont know what compels you to come into this thread, reply to the topic and then derail it based off not my opinions, what ive said, or what i believe in and instead focus on my SFW profile picture and joke name.
Again either you are a troll or a child, and neither of those are worth my time any further to continue arguing with over nothing
If you are willing to look at the full picture i have as my pfp you will see its not even close to nfsw, but if not, then our convo has come to an end and i thank you for bumping my thread so much

If you have a problem with the gamertag and / or profile picture then take it to private messages and keep the forum thread on-topic.

All irrelevant posts have been flagged as off-topic - don’t argue about keeping the place ‘clean’ but then contribute to the complete opposite.

Are you an actual Mormon?

Just curious because otherwise, I’m not sure what this person’s icon picture has to do with the points made in this post.

Back to the topic at hand, I didn’t realize until you said it but I have been seeing a lot of the same people championing these concerns so kudos.

In regards to the manipulation, specifically the removal of the videos and posts about the system before, they’ve also been locking topics that discuss it as well.

What this says to me is they’re trying to ignore this long enough to make a nice bit of money off of the current system before addressing how awful it is. Then they can “fix” the problem they created, be the hero, and collect a bunch of money from the people supporting this garbage monetization.

I just hope they do truly fix it so we can move on to the other loads of feedback they ignored from the flights and other busted areas of the game.

The best part is this game doesn’t even have the color options from Halo: CE. There are less color options in this than the first game in the series, from 20 years ago. What a smack in the players’ face.

This event is what convinced me to uninstall Infinite. Honestly part of me hopes 343 wakes up and just makes the store irrelevant, another part of me hopes 343 doubles down, makes the store more egregious and drives away more players, only for MCC to maintain a large population than Infinite to show 343 that old school Halo and even Halos Reach and 4 are more popular with the actual fanbase than Infinite is.

I agree with everything you just said!!! This is not what HALO is!!!

This is even on the low end. Armor bundles that were expected to be 5$US turned out to be 7$US and armor bundles that were expected to be 10$US are now 15$US like the Katana.

This is pure gold. Thanks for the laugh.

@HotNWetMess if that dude reports you for sexual whatever content, you can report him for being a terrorist because of that bomb picture lol.

@HotNWetMess This thread is comedy gold. But i completely agree with you, I just hope 343 fixes this stuff. Even slowly, y’know.

I just want Infinite to not crash and burn!

This is pretty accurate to my thoughts about what’s going on. Come on 343, show us more respect than this. The gameplay is great, and I appreciate you all for that, but how are we, the players, supposed to respect choices like this. I can’t speak for everyone, but I doubt I’m alone in saying if you show us respect, we’ll show you respect back.

It’s also plainly persistant harassment and against the community guidelines outright, so I have also flagged.

But yes the system is so abysmal it must have either been created purely by corporate suits with zero understanding or care of player experience & perception, or it’s intentionally poor so that whatever marginally less abysmal changes (if any) they make to it seems good in comparison.

Its a horrible, dishonest, manipulative business model and is quite frankly a stain on what could otherwise be one of the best Halo games in the series.

(That said, I don’t know I’d call it that given the lack of content, progression, stats & poor weapon sandbox, though that’s what many others are calling it)

So, the biggest question is why it’s accepted by the consumer to spend 60$ on a game that’s halfway complete at best…just curious when this became the norm…they all do it but there was a time when you bought a game and it was done and played as it should across the board…halo for instance, we’re going to buy a game that’s nowhere near complete at phase 1 then pay more money for colors and armor…what a scam -Yoink!- industry. I’m not saying 343 started working on infinite immediately after h5 release but they’ve certainly had plenty of time to make a complete game as it should work and run from day 1
