There is a myriad of issues concerning all vehicles in this game and it’s astounding the issues made it this far in the games development…
Here is the list of every vehicle and the issues accompanied by them.
M12 Warthog
Too bouncy when in motion/feels weightless
Reticule a tad too small
When on a sloped surface you can’t aim down far enough to hit enemies
Could have a little more health
Should not be a vehicle Pelican Drop
M290 Mongoose
Nothing much to say here besides the similar weightlessness and bounciness the Warthog suffers from
M808 Scorpion
A proverbial Unicorn in the wilderness of BTB
Seriously, I’ve only got to use it once in like 30 BTB matches and there was 30 seconds left on the timer.
AV-49 Wasp
There is nothing wrong with this vehicle, it’s almost perfect as-is.
M15 Razorback
Being honest I have never had the need to drive one since Warthogs are abundant enough but it does have similar Warthog handling issues.
M290-M Gungoose
Similar handling issues as the mongoose.
Overall it’s a good vehicle that should not be a vehicle drop from a pelican.
M12R Rockethog
Same handling issues listed on the Warthog.
Rockets fire a tad slow and have minor splash damage making killing Spartans difficult.
Just feels mediocre IMO.
Banished Banshee
Banshee Bomb deals very low damage/splash damage to vehicles and Spartans and the loading time in the bomb is quite slow.
~I have landed bombs within melee lunge distances and did barely any damage.
Cannons similarly do very little damage
Feels like I am flying a brick and handles like a brick. By far the worst vehicle in the game.
~ 343, Please take a seriously good look at this vehicle, go fly a Banshee in any other game, H3, Reach, H4 or H5. THATS how the banshee is supposed to handle, the banshee is so bad I have seen it spawn and no one even bother to try it because it’s basically a flying turd that gets you killed
Could use more Health.
Banished Ghost
Handles kind of poorly/ does not feel like previous iterations of the Ghost, makes using the guns on it more difficult with how well Spartans move around . This vehicle could use some TLC.
Feels too drifty when strafing/reacquiring targets.
Banished Wraith
The Mortar is absolutely trash. It fires at a more direct angle which is different than previous iterations which would be fine but the splash damage is abysmal. Literally play any other Halo game to get a sense what the splash radius and damage should be.
Feels too light and when moving the reticule to acquire targets you end up over compensating because you keep drifting a few feet after you stop. When you factor the lack of splash damage it is a terrible combination.
Banished Chopper
You can’t ram vehicles to destory - been a chopper staple since H3.
Handles alright but could use some work.
Vehicle combat has always been a major factor in Halo, but all these vehicles issues are making them virtually useless compared to their previous counterparts and pretty much all vehicles need to be tuned to be more usable.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has suffered this lol, yeah the Banshee Bomb feels pretty weak in Infinite, not sure if that was a balancing decision or there’s a bug right now cos’ it feels weird.
It feels like 343 put way more effort into infantry (cavalry?) play than vehicle-play. I think Infinite’s weapon sandbox edges out Halo 3 as the best one we’ve ever seen, but the vehicles have a long way to go.
Something you didn’t mention is just how plastic-y they all look, especially the Banished vehicles. When they explode, it looks like a Lego that broke into 3-4 chunks. That’s it. There’s barely a sound effect or an explosion effect to accompany it.
You made a great point, I was too focused on gameplay issues and hadn’t thought of the cosmetics.
Truth be told I haven’t seen much of the tanks in MP, they spawn so rarely. I have played them more in Fiesta than actual btb which is hilarious when you think of it.
I’ve never actually been able to get in one, so I can’t speak to the tank or wraith. Every warthog chassis has that stability and roll issue. It’s as if there is an invisible poll coming out the top that has a 3 ton weight on it. Even deliberate counter steering doesn’t level you out, as it did even in previous 343i Halo titles. Really hoping that’s something they fix. The Geese have been unstable as helk since their implementation, it was part of their whole design philosophy: fastest thing on wheels but hard to control. I agree on Ghost strafe issues but much of the rest felt fine. Banshee bomb you’re right on the money, worthless. Even in enemies hands I’ve been splattered by banshee more than killed by their actual weapons. Chopper is pretty useless.
Another issue I run into quite consistently is that splatter damage seems super inconsistent. I’ve gotten splatters when accidentally strafing into a target with a ghost, and I’ve not gotten them when plowing into targets full tilt with hogs, geese, and choppers. I think vehicle durability on the whole is ok for now given the utter lack of anti-vehicle measures in this game.
Don’t forget ground vehicle air controll. By flipping the thumbstick mid air you can tilt the warthog, unnatural.
And yes, the Warthog is extremely bouncy and prone to flying off, not to mention the insane acceleration.
Nothing with it feels right.
I’ve used the Scorpion a couple of times, and it feels fantastic. It’s a superb blend of the Halo 3 and Halo 5 Scorpions, so it’s such a shame that it’s so uncommon.
I still haven’t gotten a chance to use the Wraith, though.
I haven’t noticed the audio issues but I barely get to play with the tanks and banshee but audio sound effects have been an issue with other weapons that’s for sure.
The Warthog feels really difficult to maneuver all around compared to all previous iterations.
At first I thought it was just me being rusty, and hit the Custom Games for some practice and tests.
People have said “floaty”, but getting traction seems to be difficult. In previous games, this was based on the materials system (Reach has this problem at launch).
But the one thing that really sticks out is that the e-brake really doesn’t allow for drifting and cornering.
Everything is really stiff, and you have to make very dramatic camera motions before it starts to turn.
This may be the result of all the deadzone/sensitivity tweaks for customization, but this can be tested and remedied by 343 pretty easily with some focused testing.
Chopper feels a bit floaty it doesn’t have that heft that I remember. What I mean is I remember being able to whip it around and boost off for hit and runs. Now even with boosts it feels like it stalls mid turn. Almost floats about throughout its frame. The front always had this face towards enemy heft now it feels mushy.
The hog felt so odd, its been awhile since I driven one but they usually feel like a bicycle. That feeling of familiarity even as it’s evolving. It feels like theres no armor, its just a light floaty frame that somehow feels protective but also vulnerable. The turret was supposed to be beastly against personal and light vehicles in canon like the banshee but always felt hit or miss in game. I don’t know if its my settings, I’ve yet to find it but the aim feels off. Its slow, the reticle is smaller then I remember making it feel like its reliant on pin point aim that’s hard to pull off with the camera angle and reticle combined.
I miss the gaus hog, wish big team battle had maps big enough to have all three types for combined force. Halo wars spoiled me, the thought of more forms of armored vehicles etc a battlefield esc modebe hard to pull off with amount of players and balance as is.
I think the banshee is about where it was in other games, I think the wasp is just significantly more OP than the banshee. the banshee bomb has a strange range, but I fairly consistently drop the shields of targets when they are struck within melee range. its fight characteristics remind me of halo 2, which may be why I dont mind it. most of the time though I just use it as a hit and run bomber or a dashing close air support.
the ghost for me just suffers from this games rather strange splatter registration.
I think all vehicles also struggle greatly from the stupid engine explosion thing. I dont get why it exists.
My experience with the Banshee Bomb is that it does just enough damage to not kill on its own. I find it works best if you lightly brush the enemy with the blasters before bombing them, or the reverse, to get kills.
I’ve really noticed the warthog is hard to get a handle on. I find myself jumping
massive distances off of seemingly small bumps. For being a vehicle fit to house
multiple, huge super-soldiers, it seems to be as light as a feather! One upside
is that the razorback actually lets you mount a flag on the back. Very neat.
I also feel the banshee is pretty lacking. It may just be me, but it feels a lot clunkier
to navigate than in previous titles. Though that just could be me getting worse at
videogames
Besides that, the other vehicles I’ve gotten to drive seem fine. The wraith feels right,
the mongoose handles like I think it would. Never got a chance to pilot the scorpion, but
the turret works well enough. I don’t have much experience with the ghost either.
Ignoring handling, I’m surprised that vehicle turrets can just be shot at all times.
NO overheat, no ammo, no reason to stop shooting at all. Seems kind of nuts.
Additionally, people manning turrets seem a LOT more durable than in past games.
Not necessarily bad, but just something I noticed.
One more thing: I’d like to see the mantis make a comeback. It’s unique compared to other vehicles, and I feel like it could work in a lot of different maps.
I spawned in a first game on the big open U map and got in the banshee and flew around for a total of 3 seconds before being skewered. Power dynamics in this game are super weird. In reach it took a ton of players to bring down a banshee but all the vehicles feel like tissue paper and liabilities rather than power boosts.
Actually, vehicle toiletpaper started with Reach. The banshee was a deathtrap in Reach if at least three players fired at it with the dmr.
Nevertheless, there’s a lot of vehicle stopping power in a lot of vehicles and we find ourselves in a situation where we may not use vehicles at all.
Think it was in this thread mentioned that Banshees usually get ignored.
