So my wifi just went down for the third time today. It goes down frequently when I’m gaming. I live in an area where 3 mbps is the maximum. “You have been placed on a cool down from arena matchmaking for poor connection on dedicated servers.” I’m sorry? Is having poor connection an offense harsh enough to keep me from playing a game I payed $60 for? Will banning me solve my connection issues? I’m all for banning quitters, but wtf 343. You screw us over with your crappy servers (me and my friends haven’t been able to play a single game where at least one of us doesn’t get booted for the past 3 days), then you screw over those who can’t help their crappy wifi.
You payed for a license i343 can revoke if they see fit.
You disconnecting often is no different than someone quitting often.
You even admit to going in online with a poor unstable wifi connection (get wired), that is entirely up to you.
Banning you won’t solve any connection issues, it will prevent you from going into a game you most likely will not finish thus ruining a team’s experience.
Perhaps a ban would motivate you to make a more stable connection, or perhaps you will quit out entirely.
I sure wouldn’t allow you in my game parties if I knew you were on an unstable connection.
Be prepared for the, “Right, suureee it’s your connection,” people. People who support this iteration of the banhammer are like videogame -Yoink!-’s.
As much as I am sorry for you, prepare for the ravaging onslaught of people who love the banhammer like a kitten.
I’m sorry that you are having problems with your WiFi, but it does prevent you from finishing games and that does cause problems for other people playing. Being on both ends of uneven teams, I can say that;s it’s not nearly as fun. It is kind of harsh for punishing you like that, but maybe there’s something more you can do to get a more stable connection.
You play multiplayer gaming over wireless? I’ve got 99 problems, but getting banned for making a silly networking decision, ain’t one! Get wired baby, it’s that simple. Also, you are a quitter!
The only thing that’s sucks is people who quit/dc in the middle of the game. For that, the Banhammer rocks because it keeps you guys out, although not long enough.
If you try to game over wireless, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Ok. Let me make something clear for you guys. I AM wired, I’ve boosted and partition the bandwith as much as I can. I cannot upgrade my internet. Nothing I can do about that. Just because my connection can be a little unstable at times (I never lag, just drop once or twice). Banning me won’t solve anything. I’ll just be back on the next day, same connection. I am aware they can legally take away my liscence, but that doesn’t make it the best thing to do. My connection is bad and will be until I move.
edit I realize I said wifi, I meant Ethernet, I most definitely am wired.

Haha. Quiter. Yea I intentionally tell the Internet gods to drop my dsl
I’m sympathetic to bad connections, I have one myself. But disconnecting from the game is still impacting everyone else in your game and if it happens enough, it’s definitely a pattern and a hindrance to everyone else in the game.
I get disconnected/dropped from games randomly. I haven’t been quit banned since Halo Reach.
Disconnects are treated the same as a quit because the end result is the same. And if they weren’t, people would just intentionally kick themselves offline to leave games.

That is a really good argument. Just sucks that there isn’t a way to tell if it’s intentional or not. Oh well, as long as I can get on tommorow I guess. Just helps to get on the forums and vent sometimes I suppose.
Trust me, I get it. I know it’s frustrating. But after it happens once or twice, I stop pushing my luck and move on to something else. Not as fun but better than being forced into something else.

People quit every other game I play. If you want to avoid it make some friends and get a fireteam. The banhammer doesn’t stop anyone from quitting. Sometimes people who have responsibilities in the real world have there priorities in check. For example, if I had kids and they started crying I’d need to go help them. Not saying that they SHOULDN’T be banned, just that banning can’t prevent them from quitting, and in the end doesn’t solve anything.
edit fixed typos
shhhhh…you hear that? BANG BANG BANG …sounds like a hammer in the distance LOL
Praise the Hammer!

Intentional or notnot (and yes, they can tell) the game says it requires Xbox live(internet) to play it. They’re going to assume that you’ll meet their standards on connection by playing online games. If they notice you disconnecting quite a bit then you’ll be kicked. Other games do the same, they vary on how strict they are however. They can tell if you’re intentionally quitting or if you’re disconnecting as they’ll look at your connection and make their judgment from there. We all paid $60 or more to play the game, however it doesn’t mean we own the rights to play it the way we want. I’m not saying tough luck to you for your connection, it’s unfortunate as gamers that some of us have these issues (myself included so don’t think I’m a perfect internet connection guy singling you out for ruining my experience, I lag out too) however if we were allowed to stay in and ruin other players play time then it benefits no one. At least with a ban system it tries to separate players to where some can get some enjoyment out of their game.
I am sympathetic about bad internet. So let me tell you about me. I travel extensively for my career. I stay in hotels some times with shoddy internet. If I can’t keep a stable connection, I simply don’t play games that require it. Does it stink? Absolutely. But I don’t want to get cutoff from a game, mid game. Its not fair to the players, but also it is incredibly aggravating for me. So therefore I don’t try. You should do the same. How the heck can you not get aggravated by losing connection. Surely it affects other games as well. Destiny as one example would be unplayable. there are others as well.

really? my console is connected wirelessly, and I have had only 4 disconnects which where spread out through the 343 games I have played. other then that I have had no issues at all.
(I am not joking, I really have played 343 games! :D)
