Anyone else notice how laughably terrible it is? Now, I can’t speak from experience (since I just got here) but I’ve heard nothing but bad, bad things about it, and whoever came up with it.
Example; “We’ll send you a message telling you why you were banned, but you can’t read it until it expires! Although, at that point, you won’t care anyway…”
Don’t even get me started on some of the stories I’ve heard about the mods here…
Stalin, is that you? What? Oh, sorry, Kim-Jong-Il, you guys just act alike, y’know?
I would encourage you to spend some time around our forums. The information you have is second hand, and I hope you stick around to find out for yourself that were not dictators, we have rules, just like any other forum, and we enforce them. If you ever have any questions about anything, the mods are ALWAYS available to help!

You know what I like about you?

Never been banned, so no clue.

Whatever you have hard, the mods are some of the nicest people you’ll meet. No joke there, and that is not my opinion, they are gamers as well. Not only that, but some of them have funny moments that, if you have a watchful eye… you’ll catch them in the act:

Yeah, mods here are really nice, and really well behaved, they are not as bad as your friend makes them out to be. I mean, just be lucky that when you break the rules, all they do is edit your post and leave your original post in spoiler tags, I’ve been to other forums, where those posts get deleted, hell, the forums I’m mod on, I just delete posts, don’t warn them the second or third time they break the rules.
Also, unlike what every one else says, Mods are random people like you and me, they are not employees of 343i, they just follow the rules of the forums and enforce them. They’re the cops of the forums, if you’re nice to them, they’ll be nice to you as long as you don’t break the rules, if you’re -Yoinks!- to them, they’ll still be nice to you.
> Example; “We’ll send you a message telling you why you were banned, but you can’t read it until it expires! Although, at that point, you won’t care anyway…”
We do that because it forces the user to wait, and they usually calm down during that time. Instantly showing them the post might cause them to spend their ban-time forming a grudge against others involved in whatever dispute led to the ban, and such a grudge could cause the user to misbehave even more when they return from their ban.
To a lot of users, that sounds flimsy and unlikely to work, but in many cases, it actually does get people to calm down and move on. I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve been on the receiving end of this policy, and I can tell you from experience that it works.
If you have any other feedback about the forum rules and policies, feel free to ask them. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Yeah, I don’t know about the banning system here, but the banning system for the forums I’m mod with, we can leave messages as for the reason why people are banned, and when people try viewing the forums or doing something, it pops up.
> If you have any other feedback about the forum rules and policies, feel free to ask them. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
And that’s why I love the mods here, they are very willing to answer questions.

No, contrary to what everyone else said, they are as bad as you’ve been told. I’ve just recently been banned for “comparing someone to -Yoink!-”. Even though I said no names.
Riiiiigghhht. Seems legit.
I didn’t realize; “Careful, the Führer doesn’t like dissenting opinions!” was the same as me comparing someone to -Yoink!-. I wonder where the mods learned English, because it sure wasn’t in an English speaking country.
EDIT: To clarify, if anything, my ban was for talking badly about 343i as a whole. The thread was about 343i not letting people speak their minds. Regardless, unless corporations suddenly became people when I wasn’t looking…
And no, corporations are not people, but 343i isn’t a corporation. It’s a development studio filled with people. If you flame all of their hundreds of employees individually by name, you’re flaming. If you flame all of them in one fell swoop using the name of a group, you’re still flaming.

Nice try. No, you’re making an inference from my post. I said I was talking about 343i, not any of the people working there. If someone says Pepsi tastes terrible, are they saying that every employee of Pepsi tastes terrible?
If I say EA is a greedy company, am I saying that everyone who works for EA is greedy? No. I’m saying that their business practices are greedy. How is that any different from me saying that I find the rules set forth by 343i, to be extremely, and needlessly, intrusive?

Sounds like people trying to blame the truck drivers. I like the analogy.

Pepsi is a product, so yes, it can have properties of taste and what not, but EA and 343 are the names of a group of people. They can’t have characteristics separate from the people because the people are what makes the decisions, so yes, insulting/flaming a company is insulting/flaming people.
Company (Characterized by people):
PepsiCo.
EA
343
Products (Characterized by itself):
Pepsi
Mass Effect
Halo

What about me saying EA is incredibly greedy? As per your post, they’re characterized by people. Yet, when I say they’re greedy, I’m clearly not talking about the people, but how the business is run. Likewise, when I say 343i is far too stringent for it’s rules on the forum, I’m talking about that policy and their stance on it.
It was interpreted far too literally. Had I said; “The people at 343i are…” then, yes, I’d have deserved the ban. Though to be fair, I could have picked a better, less controversial person. Regardless, I feel that, whether or not you liked my joke is irrelevant, I didn’t do what I was banned for. Did I deserve a ban for it? Not for me to say; I’m not arguing that. I’m just saying the reason I was given, doesn’t match what I did.

Tho the forums is based out of the US, -Yoink!- is still a taboo to some people and groups. Now, as for the mods being the bad people, the only person bad, is the person breaking the rules, I don’t care what you say about 343i the company, 343i’s employees, but that’s very disrespectful on THEIR FORUMS/SITE. Now, if you wish to stay on their forums, I suggest you need a little more respectful to them and their company.

Since this is WAYYYY off topic…
I like the banhammer. Makes sure things run smoothly for me. Now if only I could find a match recently that doesn’t have a player afk in the beginning through the end of a match…
