Ambigious title I know, but It’s exactly how I describe the gameplay when facing AI. I feel majority of the mechanics were tweaked for the MP and the co-op/campaign portion was an after thought. I feel weak, never felt like that before. As if my Spartan is wrapped in cardboard and tissue paper.
In other Halo’s I could always take a fair amount of damage and when I got killed it was due to stupidity or just from being overwhelmed. Now I charge a single Crawler while shotgunning and get downed before I’m in range. I get melee’d with full health and shield and get dropped in a single blow.
Am I crazy? Is this how Halo has always been? I recall tearing through the campaigns on legendary solo and being challenged but it was fun. Halo 5 on legendary feels like a damn chore. As if I do anything other than hold back at a safe range pegging the enimies with percision weapons I’m going to be punished. I want to get into the action aggressively man handling the enimes like the fodder they are. With these new Spartan abilities I thought that was what the gameplay was suppose to be like…It’s not, and in fact I have to play more cautiously than any other Halo in the series. It’s a bummer. Slowing down the pacing when I thought 343 were taking us in the opposite direction.
Is it just me? Anyone else feel like this? Thoughts, gripes, anything???
It has always been like that in Halo. In Halo 2, the jackal snipers would murder you from a distance. When you play Legendary you are suppose to use cover and is suppose to be hard. You can’t Rambo your way through it. Be patient and take your time and use the exploit to get past the 3 Wardens. That is how I beat it on solo legendary.
I’ve had this discussion with others IRL and general consensus was we all felt the engagements felt different from previous Halo’s. No one else here feels like that? Like you get downed way too quick?
When I first read your title, I thought you were talking about the weapon sandbox and I was preparing to disagree. Now that I’ve actually read your post, I do agree. Something made Halo 5’s Legendary feel more tedious than the other games. I think it’s the Soldiers, who are basically Halo 3 Brutes done wrong, combined with the repetetive Warden encounters, which just got worse and worse. In other games, yes, you were typically better off picking enemies off from a distance, but there were still instances where close quarters was viable. With Halo 5, pretty much anything will kill you in one melee, and if they don’t, they’ll kill you with two, making close quarters combat a bad idea.
The FF is hard because the AI are significant boosted. After beta many people complain how easy is to beat, and in the realize they decided to make FF almost unbeatable.
But yeah, they just cross the line between challenge and impossibility. After the last update, FF popularity drop like Rock in the Sea.Very little players have a nerve to continue.
I very heavily doubt a Crawler can one shot you with it’s melee.
Anyways, Just about every Halo game would punish you for close quarters without a really good plan. In Halo 2, being out in the open is a death sentence multiple times over.
