So… It has come to this. After seven + years of halowars players have rendered anders’ Hawks useless in 1s. I said it, and I’ll say it again if nececary. I’m not a bad kid and every time playing anyone as skilled I loose when going air. Every time. Because a few scorps and wolverines are enough to deal with any amount of Hawks.
Even early game
Other player doesn’t scout, has tanks at same time I fly in with a few hornets. Either base is too powerful to assault vehicle depot or already has wolverines or makes wolverines before I can kill depot. If not even a few tanks can kill what ever hornets I have at that point in game and not enough time to make tanks to counter (Cobras are laughably underpowered against any amount of canister tanks. Tanks shread Cobras (even Spartan Cobras) every time. EVERY TIME).
Therefore only decent option is to go tanks. Then, if doing well enough invest in Hawks. And even then again, any amount of wolverines takes them out of the air faster than a well placed cryo bomb.
It it is sad I come to this realization, for anders is my main and Hawks are my second favorite unit to vultures, but unless 3s (honestly not even 2s because anti-air is so prevalent and effective) are useless.
Hawks are not good? Lmao ok OP.
and only a couple of wolverines can take out a horde of hawks?? Nah if you have a coordinated attack wolverines will be the least of your worries…
Hawks are so good that the enemy generally piles in the anti air units to keep them at bay! (Speaking as someone who nearly always uses Anders)
I hope they make a return in HW2.
Gremlins can help against small amounts of Wolverine’s and Cryo bomb can help against small amounts of Covenant Vampires but when playing Anders you generally get faced with -Yoink–loads of both, they are that much of a threat.
I really hope Covenant leaders are toned down in HW2. They are far too powerful early game and being able to teleport them out of danger to increase their veterancy and therefore their effectiveness is something that UNSC players can not do with their Mac Blast/ Cryo or Carpet.

The entire dynamic between the Covies and the UNSC has been altered. The leaders aren’t built at the beginning, they don’t have special abilities like Rage or Vortex, and units can’t be teleported to them. Also, the UNSC also has an on-field leader as well. I mourn the loss of the dynamic between the two factions in Halo Wars (1) because they were different without one being too OP over the other.
But leaders weren’t OP in Halo Wars, and that is for one sole reason. The disruption bomb. I don’t want this thread to get off topic, but Covenant leaders aren’t OP.
Well I disagree. The disruption bomb is only area of effect and has a long cooling down period. It is possible for the leader just to walk around the other side of the base and continue the assault. In the early game especially, disruption bombs aren’t cheap when you also need to build units which is the best way of trying to keep them at bay. If you don’t have units to fight back with, the leader won’t run away. I find you’re often forced to build lots of crap marines as it takes too long to build a good number of vehicle units which is a waste of time for anyone that doesn’t plan on using ODST units…

Well, ok. you got me there but that is almost never the case. early game tanks and 3 + wolves are enough to deal with how ever many hornets/(future hawks) I can muster and I can’t convert that fast to scorps so death.

Also the covenant has time to prepare and upgrade what ever he needs so yeah. flamer spam is the only way to properly counter that rush and even then puts you at disadvantage.
Also something worth noting… I was playing last night and had to have sent an army of 7 flashbang flamers to attack an arbiter but the arbiter glitch rage ran and attacked and repeated and took virtually no damage and all my flamers… rage is OP and needs to be fixed somehow. I don’t mind the damage but the practical invincibility is not fair.

Well yeah… and death happens. Like, honestly 3 tanks and 3 wolves= hornets dealt with+ base rushed with nothing to defend with= pause+up+A.
That is a good Idea for sure but with scorps how does that play out? Say I focus on wolves then scorps- comes in with more wolves + scorps destroy gremlins. Say I focus on tanks first, Wolvs still in play. Stailmate/ opponent wins.
True on covenant but A. cool down B. base cryo doesn’t kill -Yoink- C. that’s at least 1000 resources to pull + opponent can pump more effortlessly while you wait to die.
And true. Honestly if Arbiter’s glitch run would be fixed so he takes damage I’d say leaders are ok but yeah nerving a little would be good.

Well, what I do when playing as anders.is build two reactors on home base. Then 1 air pad, the rest supply pads then bulid 2 or 3 hornets to clear up the rebel bases, bulid another base 5 supply pads, so you can upgrade the reactors quickly then hornets, then at least 2 air pads on the secound base so you can dish out hawks like every secound. With the air pad at home base upgrading hornets if you haven’t already maxed out hornets.( and make sure to upgrade to heavy supply pads as quick as you can)

That’s assuming the opponent is asleep…
If you are facing anyone half decent FYI they hit your base inside of five minutes/ already have another base by then and that strat you mentioned, going no supply pads until 2 reactors and AP would take laughably long to do what you say.
Honestly were you even serious with that?

Ok I meant build 4 supply pads to begin with then 2 reactors then a air pad. It usually works for me unless some idiot warthog rushes
It took me a few minutes to realize that you are talking about units from Halo Wars…
