The art style

The art style I like in this build… but at launch it could look more akin to halo 3 with the grit & dirt mixed with a cartoony look which I won’t mind at all… halo 3 was my favourite art style… what is your favourite art style

weapons need more metallic feeling…sounds too are matte, all materials are like a clay (rock need to be rock, metal need to be metal, wood need to be wood) without lost the art style of course, warthog seem super clear and is always clear when u run on mud. LOD is really bad…grass do pop up in only 2meters?

I’d like to see more wear and tear in the textures and dirt on the warthog when it goes through mud.

Reach was my favorite. So pretty much what you said.

I really hate the art style, I really don’t know where people are getting that it looks classic, it just looks bad and low graphics.

There’s a difference between art style and graphics. Art style is the overall design of the characters, enemies, etc, and 343 nailed it: classic looking Chief, Covenant species, environments and colors is what everybody wanted. Graphics refers more to the quality of those designs as rendered in game, the biggest issue in the demo being the lighting and stale textures. The designs themselves though are clearly more traditional than 4 and 5.

Bruh I know I’m saying both look terrible.

I can see some semblance of the botched Gearbox version of CE, which is apparently “classic” now. As opposed to the original Xbox version, which while very different to what came later, was still more visually interesting to look at than what we saw in the reveal.

I’m honestly shocked at the contrast between models and weapons with a great, classic inspired look, like Master Chief’s armor, the BR, the warthog, and enemy designs; Compared to the new guns like the sidekick, commando, ravager, and mangler, which stand out as particularly generic and uninspired, IMO. The ravager looks like a Forerunner water heater more than a grenade/energy launcher. The Brute weapons seem to altogether lack the DIY feel of their past appearances, the mangler looks more like a piece of mining equipment from Dead Space than something from any alien race, nonetheless one as inelegant as the Jiralhanae. As far as the human weapons, I’m sure plenty of folks won’t like me saying it, but you could throw the Commando into any of the near-future COD games, and no one would skip a beat thinking it was made specifically for those games(I say this as a COD and Halo player), and the sidekick literally just looks like a glock. Might as well have ripped it from Counter Strike. The more I look at the new shotgun the more I like it, though, it seems to be a pump action with a rotating drum mag which is not something I think I’ve seen before, it could definitely use more visual flair, though, even if that’s just an extra LED or two. Honestly, I was hoping for a more inspired design philosophy, even if it strayed from the classic style, but this demo seemed like a visual mishmash, to me.

How so? You say it doesn’t look like the classic style but it does. The Chief, the Elites, the Grunts, all have traditional Halo 2/3/Reach looking armor, Jackals birdlike again, Elites have their mandibles in the right spot. Honestly hardly anything looks like it did in 4 or 5, what about it doesn’t look classic to you?

20 bucks says, they say everything.

the designs are pretty decent, but the graphics make them look really bad.

You guys are legitimately blind if you think this looks like classic anything. A vibrant colour pallet is the only similarity and even then the colours are far over saturated here. I admit chief looks better and so does the pelican and stuff like that but things like the grunts and banished phantom all look ugly as hell. The level design with all those hexagons look damn ugly and haven’t been in any other halo so nothing classic about that. It looks way more reminiscent of fortnite than anything else. Look at things like the Brute character models for example, Halo 3 even Halo 2 had them looking more realistic and visually striking. Look an infinite grunt and look at a reach grunt, the infinite grunt looks simply weird and cartoon like in comparison. With things like the teen rating and no blood in game its literally just appealing to the fortnite 9 year old crowd.

I didn’t like the orange octagon shapes that appear on your screen when your shield is recharging, it just looked really distracting, and I imagine it will be more distracting if your constantly getting shot at in the PvP mode of the game.

  1. Master Chief is the Forward unto Dawn movie, with the chest piece segmented like Halo 3 but enough that’s it’s distinct from Halo 3. Armour as a whole is distinct enough from all other Halos.
  2. Elites are Halo wars 1/ Halo 2 anniversary
  3. Jackals are birdlike and not reptile like so not halo 4 or Halo 5 but I can’t confirm their style.
  4. Some Grunts are Halo 5, others seem to be a combination of 4 and reach.
  5. Brute minors are Halo 3.
  6. Other brutes are Halo wars 2.
  7. Phantom is banished so Halo Wars 2.
  8. Warthog and Wasp are Halo 4/5.
  9. Pistol is not halo 2 but the alternate Halo 4 pistol that NPC’s wear but not use.
  10. Assault rifle seems closest to Reach.
  11. Mangler looks like the Mauler but is actually a big revolver gun instead of a one hand shotgun.
  12. Plasma pistol is H5.
  13. Kneedler is H5.

Yeah lots of different art styles put altogether.

Agreed, what happened to the magnum? I hope it’s a seperate gun from the actual magnum.

Also, have the Grunts always been naked from the waist down?

This Sidekick seems to be the alternate pistol from Halo 4, the one that Lasky holds on his holster.

I liked 3, Reach, and 4’s styles the best all for different reasons. They are pretty much the best 3 examples of a fully inspired art direction that has cohesion and an objective. 3 was simple and iconographic without feeling like a cartoon. Reach was gritty, skeletal, rugged, and utilitarian looking with a consistent harmony and a major emphasis on visual mood. 4 was a look into the future with previous tech extrapolated to their logical upgrade and a realistic interpretation of the series that showed it in a more hard-sci-fi light that was in parity with the outside lore. It updated designs that were starting to look less futuristic as real world time moved on. It, like Reach, had a fully cohesive style built from the ground up with a vision.

5 kind of piggybacked off of 4 while attempting to do things with its style that it was not meant to do, and 1 and 2 were a victim of 6th gen graphical limitations so I don’t really compare them in the same court.

I really hope they do this game right. The franchise has a special place in my heart, it was my childhood. I really don’t want to see it dragged through the dirt.
