In previous games I always enjoyed the armor customization. I was super interested in all of the different pieces and combinations I could pull off to create the perfect look for my spartan, my avatar, who I essentially am in the universe of Halo. Even more so now with the addition of Spartan Ops.
I notice now however that I just feel lacking in options. I find my self reminiscing of the previous games armors and art style.
What happened?
I used to spend hours just checking out my Spartan in previous games perfecting my appearance. Now I hate even acknowledging that I can customize my character. The armor looks so alien, so foriegn they don’t even fit into Halo.
I’m not making this post to complain really, but to try and see how the Waypoint community feels about this and maybe even ask for others to support me in calling for a style-check in the next Halo.
I personally like the armor. While some of the helmets look ugly to me (have you SEEN Ranger?), that’s my opinion. But I find it hard to settle on a shoulder/torso/leg set, because I think they all look freakin’ sweet. It’s just a matter of personal taste.
As far as style check, Halo never had a “style” that I could see. You might be referencing the fact that previous Halos didn’t have high poly-counts on the armor, which made everything look simple. Most of Reach’s armors were also just graphical reboots of old gear. I didn’t like most of 4’s armory at first either, but it quickly grew on me.
The armor does look a little “alien,” but that might be because we’re used to seeing blocky armor pieces, and Halo 4’s engine finally has the ability to render small curves and bevels, so 343 took advantage of that.
Oh no I totally agree, H4 customization is super shallow. All the armor… looks the same! No helmet add ons, no grenade belts/robot arms, nothing. No “extra” armor, just 1 chestpiece. “Enjoy!” says 343i. I say “I miss Bungie!”
> While some of the helmets look ugly to me (have you SEEN Ranger?), that’s my opinion.
Nah, that’s not an opinion. That’s a fact. I’ve seen prettier 5th grade crayon drawings.
> Oh no I totally agree, H4 customization is super shallow. All the armor… looks the same! No helmet add ons, no grenade belts/robot arms, nothing. No “extra” armor, just 1 chestpiece. “Enjoy!” says 343i. I say “I miss Bungie!”
I agree, but I’m not gonna let it eat at me. As long as there’s EOD, I’ll be happy
I think there should have more visors. Most of these Spartan IV helmets look like they could be blinded by a tiny splash of mud.
I personally like the armor and armor skins. I just don’t like the quality of the colors and that the undersuit color cannot be changed.
Lol at first I thought the thread said, “the armor is locking.”
Anyways, I was just about to say what Darches said. The armor looks the same. They are way to similar. I find the helmets to be unique, but everything is like it’s being repeated with slight differences.
I always loved getting to see what armor I could mix around for my Spartan, when getting a new halo game. The armory experience is lackluster, although, I do take interest in visors/ stances and helmets in Halo 4.
No, Reach’s armor was lacking… every helmet looked like the other.
I just want Gungnir, but its freaking impossible with the effect Halo has of giving you bad team mates and making your whole enemy team Americans that pull host. I’ll just stick with Tracker till then I suppose, it fills the same niche.
I really couldnt agree more about the armor feeling “alien” and its so true, I used to just look at my guy and try to squeeze every ounce of awesome out of new armor unlocks and to be honest I really havnt changed my guys appearance since release.
I do still really enjoy halo 4, but the armor choices and specializations not being a passive bonus really bother me.
some of the armor looks silly.
My biggest concern with the armour is that it’s hard to have a combination of armour where everything seems to fit together properly. In Halo 3 and Reach, no matter which pieces you chose for your Spartan, it always felt right, the look made sense. You could recognize the Spartan as having Mark V armour with a lot of modifications, it seemed like something that would actually be work by a real Spartan.
However, in Halo 4, we have the ability to change our arms, legs and complete torso pieces, which are all quite aesthetically different. Let’s say that I take the Mark VI legs, Outer-plated arms, Venator chest, Warrior helmet and then the scout shoulders. You’ll look at the Spartan and it’ll just seem like a mess of different pieces of armour from completely different suits or even games that don’t belong on one person. It’s not that the armour looks bad (though some pieces aren’t quite my style), it’s that it doesn’t really fit together as well as it should. I mean, in Reach we were able to put on the ODST helmet, chest piece and shoulders, yet it still looked good, even if you mixed and matched it with other parts. Why can’t Halo 4 be the same way?

I feel the lack of armor as well, maybe future dlc would help but I don’t see it
Lacking…really Halo 4 is lacking armor? facepalm another senseless complaint thread.

Reaches armor add on were ugly I’'m glad that crappy -Yoink- isn’t back. The armor period was ugly, the spartan wore chaps lol no one want to see a super soldiers butt sticking out.

You get to customize helmet, visor, chest plate, shoulders,Legs and Arms and armors have different skins. This is more customiztion than Halo 3 had so please stop with your BS.
the only complaint is some of the helmets don’t look human like but since they have alot of helmets it’s acceptable.
Can we stop with this? Every Halo there is something so stupid people complained about just to complain just stop, customization in H4 is fine.

He said halo 4’s armor is lacking. Not halo 4 is lacking armor. He isn’t talking about quantity. How is this a senseless thread of complaining?
Get your -Yoink- right first, before attacking op. This is just more proof that people like attacking others that don’t like something about the game. It’s constructive. If you think Halo 4’s customization is fine, then that’s ok. It’s your opinion.
> I think there should have more visors. Most of these Spartan IV helmets look like they could be blinded by a tiny splash of mud.
They are already blinded XD
All the more reason not to switch to any other armor except for the Mark VI. There is something to be said about the classics.

Oh my bad I thought my eyes saw the words “Lacking options” but nope. Oh wait I still see it and I see someone talking about reaches armor having add ons… you needto -Yoink- bcause he saying it’s lacking options as well as style. Do you know what that mean do you need someone to break it down too you? I addressed both looks and quantity.
It was better in Reach. We should be able to change the ATTACHMENTS, but not all the pieces. Now there is too difference between each other, we don’t even look any more as Spartans, we are more like a new version of Power Rangers…
