The Arena: How can it be improved?

<mark>What’s wrong with it? How can it be improved?</mark>

I’ll begin:
I personally don’t like seasons. I would prefer a system where you continually have to fight for your spot to stay at the top. It would provide incentive to keep playing at the same time help prevent newer player from getting their teeth kicked in at the beginning of every season by single digit Onyx players. This imo is one of the things that hurt the population.

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what they do with the playlist itself.

What they need to do is to make it so that your Arena rank is shown off beside your name in the game lobbies like in Halo 3 (before the 1.2 patch). As of now, you have to go through like 6 different menus to find someone’s arena rank, and by that time the game has already started.

People being able to show off their ranks creates incentive to increase their rank, causing them to play the ranked playlists more often.

Arena is for quitters, nothing better than being in a match and losing the opposing team to then be able to wander around a nice big map with nothing to do for ten minutes.

I love it no need to sort it out just ignore it and it will go away, this is the philosophy me thinks.

Lol

I had a few suggestions. No one really objected to them.

Implementing 85% bloom would be a nice start, as of now, I see Arena gameplay and it tends to be just continuous aim at chest and spam, then stop, and hit the head, which is how it should be in my honest opinion, 85% bloom would technically speed this up as a process.

the removal of the jetpack

If arena is anything less than zero-bloom and sprint starts than it will not be hardcore/skillfull in my eyes.

I would like to see the implementation of 85% bloom. Although I would not like to see bleed-through, given how it (sometimes inconsistently) affects weapon damage.

I do agree that would boost the population. People need some kind of recognition. Boosting the population would also help with MM. The Arena is made to function with a much higher population.

Agreed. This would increase the incentive to play Arena and help players get a good idea of what they’re up against in other playlists.

Since Arena is now win/loss and the percentile system encourages you to play to keep your rank, seasons are no longer necessary and should be removed.

Make it so that if 3 or more players choose to “party up” after the game, they count as a big party and get matched against other big parties.
Implement the TU changes, preferably with Zero Bloom.
Sword Base and Jet Pack should be removed.
Some of the asymmetric maps (Reflection, Boardwalk, Uncaged) could use a change in weapon/spawn layout or outright removal from the playlist.
Use a user-created version of Asylum/Sanctuary to reduce framerate lag.
Maybe add in an Objective Arena playlist too, since the new Arena ranking system works for that as well.

I agree with you.

Another thing that should be changed, are the settings, most people including me, would like to see Jetpack removed for the next season. Also the bloom; it should be 85% in Arena, and the movement and the jump should be faster and highe (110% for both).

One of the most important things about the settings, should be the weapons in map, why did Bungie start using default? Arena Standart was way better; no noobs sprinting with swrords and hammers.

The most important thing needed to make Arena popular, would be showing the division symbol in every playlist and lobby.

Arena is a joke because of the settings and the seasons.

This is really the single most influential change they could make towards improving Arena. This kind of incentive would give a huge population boost, resulting in 2’s tricking no longer a necessity, more balanced teams, better host pool and shorter search times.

Moreover, it would make then make Arena more relevant, allowing 343 to justify investing more resources into further instituting the rest of the changes which current players are hungering for.

What if Arena became the only ZB playlist?? Just throwing that out there. Would it help/hurt or make no difference?

  1. Implement more playlists into the Arena Ranking system
  2. Add Objective Gametypes to Arena
  3. Make your division clearly visible on your service tag in all lobbies
  4. Remove Jetpack
  5. Remove Bloom

having the rank symbol in every lobby would breed elitism and be counter productive.

just have it show in “Ranked” playlists. majybe split Arena into Arena Slayer and Arena Objective.

Shorten the seasons and make it 2 games per day 4 is far too much

Removal of seasons is, at least for me, step one. I’ll adjust to any AA’s you force me to play with or without. But I’m not playing a game, map, or with settings I don’t like for no reason. In H3 I did ranked for the, er, rank. Reach? Not only could I not care about a lil symbol that poofs every…I don’t even know how long seasons last anymore…but the settings change too much for me to want to play it.

Simple Math

Your math’s wrong. You forgot to carry the one.

But seriously, if I’m interpretting that right, you want sprint…and evade?

Can anyone tell me the MLG settings off hand? I always kind of assumed they were close to this little math equation.

I feel removing seasons will bring back the problems that Halo 3 had. I don’t mind permanent ranks, but I’m just throwing that out there.

To me, Arena needs to:

  • Expand to other playlists
  • Needs more incentive (in-game leaderboards?)
  • Removal of jetpack
  • Zero bloom implementation (not likely to happen)
