The Arena Can Still Survive!

The BR and the DMR are usable at both close range and long range. However, since it is easier to use them at medium-longer ranges, the effectiveness of the weapon out of it’s “easy” range depends on skill.

If they did the same thing, but in the other direction, with the AR, then I think the Arena style gaming that Halo has always been known for can still exist.

If all the weapons have exactly the same amount of power, but extra skill and ability would be required to use them effectively at different ranges, then I think the game would be less of a straying from Halo’s classical arena format and more of a evolution.

For instance, AR bloom. If the AR bloom resets quickly but also expands quickly, the optimal fire rate could still be maintained at longer range. Full auto would be easy at short range, but the weapon could still be equally effective at long range given some discipline is maintained with the trigger.

It would be equivalent to controlling recoil on a BR. It makes things more difficult outside of optimal range, but it could be overcome with skill and become equal to it’s counterparts given the necessary skill.

What do you guys think?

Too long? Only the first two paragraphs are really necessary. The rest is just an explanation.

I came here thinking you were talking about the “Ranked” Arena…

I was about to call you insane.

On that note, consider adding something about the Arena style maps or whatever along these lines to the title.

OT: I don’t think that Arena maps are going anywhere. I’d expect them to revolve around the usage of the BR and the Assault Carbine replacement more than whatever else. In fact, Wraparound is an leveled Arena-ish map according to 343.

Oh and bloom won’t be in the game, so the AR won’t have it. It’ll be a mix of recoil and spread (a la Halo 3, or Reach’s Spikers / PRs) or one or the other.
