Sigh
Back in my day the shotgun was usually a 1 shot kill.
Imo the AR is in a good spot. I would suggest though that the pistol needs a nurf. If you can land every shot it can out perform a lot of the already dry sandbox. Which lets be honest a pistol should not be able to keep up with an AR or BR when it comes TTK. The pistol in H3 was perfect
Good in a pinch but not the meta for every single playlist.
Honestly id say taking the time to learn how to pulse the trigger with the AR takes skill not everyone knows how to do that well and it can be good if take the time to learn it. I like the AR is finally a good weapon but easily outclassed by everything else if its used in its proper role/ (BR/Command at range Shotgun up Close)
Its not broken its finally usable it does not need a nerf at all
Honestly the sandbox is really good where it is
Nerf the AR? I don’t think so. If you wanted it downgraded so that you take less damage from it, then the same would apply to the enemy Spartans you’re trying to shoot, who would also take less damage from the nerfed AR.
Due to Halo Infinites weird aiming system the sidekick is probably the hardest weapon to use in any video game I’ve ever played, and if you were to nerf the sidekick without nerfing the AR the sidekick would be completely unused as it’s already a risk to use it against skilled strafing players.
The reason the AR wasn’t as good in previous games is because it takes very little skill to use in comparison to precision weapons, now it’s so powerful a lot of people aren’t even picking up different weapons because every other weapon requires significantly more skill to use and some don’t even offer a fast kill time. The AR probably wouldn’t feel so OP in this game if they dial back the range a lot, I have no idea why they gave this thing like a 4x range buff since Halo 3.
Already went over all of this. H3 has the worst AR in the series and honestly it is beyoned useless. In any given situation there is a gun that is better at the job. It has no unique roll and is constantly outclassed.
Now that is has more range it is finally just good; not great, not OP, and finally not absolutely terrible. Its roll in the sandbox is the mindrange weapon between the sidekick and BR/commando. That is the only range it is the best weapon for the job. Outside of that other weapons easily beat it.
Not sure what you mean by weapons needing more skill to use to outkill the AR. The energy sword, needler, gravity hammer, bulldog, heatwave, then all power weapons take less skill to use and outkill the AR. Only the SK, sentinel beam and mangler (this is due to the nerf though) arguably take more skill to use and they still outkill the AR if used properly.
If anything the BR needs a nerf or 2 because it is so dang easy to use all the time. Playing ranked i almost never worry about map weapons save when i am just out of ammo in my mag in my BR. The BR outclasses all ranged weapons so easily because it can descope all other ranged weapons, is easy to use, has basically no downsides and a large mag to top it all off.
All the other ranged weapons take a much larger amount of skill to outkill the BR than any weapon needs to outkill the AR respectively. The shock rifle takes incredible aim to get the headshot and if you don’t get that the BR user will melt you if you don’t take cover. Same with the stalker rifle. The command has recoil, bloom, and a smaller mag so the BR easily counters it (i love the commando, this is not a call to get rid of bloom but rather nerf the BR so other weapons can compete) and the sniper is a power weapon that still struggles to kill BR users unless you see them first.
The AR is perfect in Infinite and due to your own standards above you should be calling for a BR nerf.
Yeah where did CE go
I mean, you’ve got myself and another guy in this thread showing you this is verifiably false and that, when everyone spawns with one of these things, your skill with all of the mechanics in the game will determine if you can make the AR good or not.
So. You’re wrong.
Also, if you want “the worst AR in the series,” you could probably go look at the Halo CE AR - death by 60 paper cuts.
Its “role” is jack of all trades, one that it plays masterfully. It is the ultimate utility weapon that you should probably never drop because it’s good at all ranges, and good at everything while having no noticeable downsides. This is where the problem comes in - if the gun is so generally useful at everything, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll even get anything that’s better than it at any given range (like a Bulldog + BR combo), why would you ever drop the AR?
This was the same problem with the Pistol in Halo 5 - it was so good at being a precision weapon that you shouldn’t drop it for anything because anything you could drop it for had some disadvantage the Pistol did not. It being a utility weapon meant that most player’s loadouts in 4v4 looked like “Precision Weapon + Pistol” or “Power Weapon + Pistol”
Now most players in 4v4 Auto Slayer in Infinite are running around with “AR + Something Else” as opposed to the vast majority of other weapons in the sandbox that may kill faster than the AR, but have more restrictions on them and are harder to use.
You guys are just being willfully ignorant here. The H3 AR is the weakest AR we have had to date and its not even close. That thing was a pea shooter.
For 1, people who say its the best AR we have had (best as in thats what an AR should be not TTK) are also pro BR spawns. If thats the case the AR has 0 use cases where it is the best gun to use. It is litterally useless and not worth picking up or using.
I can remember first getting into H3 multiplayer happy the AR was back. Boy did that end quickly once i realized how bad it was. Usually in BTB you spawned with an AR then a BR and so when you tell me to not believe my own eyes and say that the AR was useful and thats how it should be everyone knows people who say that just like the AR to be that weak so they never have to deal with it.
The BR as a jack of all trades utility weapon is more irritating because it a way way way better gun and maybe only 10% more difficult to use. Its so easy to get kills with and i am not sure why people act like it is so hard to use.
Again, It has
-no recoil
-no bloom
-no hipfire penalty
-is perfectly accurate
-long range
-a good scope
-large mag
-near hitscan projectiles
-large ammo pool
So no there is just now way i will ever say the AR is OP until it is as easy to use as the BR. If you can aim at all the BR is so easy to use. Just because you cam aim that doesn’t make the AR easy to use because it has much less range and shares so much of its ideal range with weapons that outkill it. So on top of needing to be closer it has more competition in its class.
It fills a pretty tight window where it is the best gun for the range. Other than that many map weapons beat it. I am not sure why people call it OP other than just wanting it to be trash like it used to.
If you nerf the BR by taking away just one or 2 of its flawless traits i think it would be a much more fun gun to use but as of now 95% of my time in ranked i never even consider using anything but the BR unless its a power weapon. Its so easy to team shoot and beam people cross map and stay away from most map weapons and the ones you can’t stay away from you can descope and outkill them with minimal effort.
If they nerf the AR and return it to the trash it was so many people would stop playing. I again argue the BR/DMR utility weapon goes in straight opposition to the 2 weapon system and has been a plague on Halo for too long now. If you disagree i can already tell you trying to convince me otherwise isn’t going to happen because i have seen 20 years of a precision weapon meta and while i love Halo that has always irked me. Its not fun to always be able to effectively fight back. I want to feel like the underdog if i chose my situation/weapons poorly and a utility weapon like the BR prevents that.
AR just needs the headshot multiplier removed. I like its shield breaking power and suppression power atm, but the headshot multiplier still feels off.
Been thinking about this, I think the headshot multiplier should stay (as it still rewards players for aiming at the head), but the amount of critical damage could be reduced. If it was changed from ~1.25s (12 shield, 3 crit) to ~1.33s (12 shield, 4 crit) then the AR would deal damage a little more consistent to it’s floor ~1.67s (12 shield, 8 body).
This way the AR would function more like a traditional automatic Halo weapon and less like a precision finisher, while still rewarding players for aiming. The change would be subtle but it would be enough to create a little bit more cushion with the rest of the sandbox being higher end.
Listening to esports players has been a dire mistake, and you can’t change my mind.
The downside? Everyone spawns with the sidekick.
esports are what keeps this game alive so not really
No. The assault rifle is fine as it is. You just need to gte good pal.
Im so tired of topics like this. The AR is fine how it is. It works perfect in halo infinite. Its your fault if you get killed by the AR in medium distance fight, when you use a BR or Sidekick.
In short range the AR is absolute deadly. Adjust your playstyle and you can counter the AR.
Just remove it from the game or make it a map pickup weapon. Sidekick starts are the best way forward for Infinite when clearly nobody wants to nerf the braindead bullethose.
Listening to esports players has been a dire mistake, and you can’t change my mind.
I agree. This game should’ve been built to the customization of Halo and let the esports side of things take on their own. Now of course, partnership is great and having the ingame skins for weapons and spartans is great, but releasing the game early to allow players/teams to play before the first initial tournament made absolutely no sense to me.
Its the consequence of listening almost exclusively to esports players prior to launch. A majority of them want all of the weapons in a safe, comfortable box they don’t have to deviate from. The BR being as godly as it exists now is proof of that.
It somehow has more ammo than the automatic AR, How is that justifiable? Its an assault rifle. and it should act like it.
