I understand that there is probably a thread out there and i apologise, but it is an interesting topic. Personally i think that the picture we saw in the concept art is either a precursor or a sort of humanoid sentinel, what do you think.
I see there being several possibilities:
-
Precursors. Hopefully not, as this is the obvious choice. They hate the Forerunners for wiping their civilization, and by extension their Reclaimers. Perhaps they could be initially suggested as the main enemy, before the true nemesis being revealed.
-
First Humanity. This would be a better plot development, well within established canon and entirely plausible - a group ran away and avoid devolution, and have now returned ready to wage war. They will hate the Forerunners and their Reclaimers for similar reasons to the Precursors, plus we know how much they loved dominating other civilizations to begin with.
-
The Flood. I really, really hope not, this plot thread has been concluded. Not that I’d mind them being an enamy, just not the main villain.
-
Some other, new faction has been repeatedly sending in the Flood to stop other civilizations reaching their level of advancement. Only we beat the Flood, so now they’re coming in personally to kill us off.
-
A mixture. Say a remnant of Precursors escaped the Forerunners, found whatever super-advanced ecosystem the Flood evolved in, and directed the Flood towards the galaxy they had lost in a revenge attack on the Forerunners. Then the group of First Humanity followed in their footsteps, also sending the Flood back at the Forerunners. Now one, or maybe both, have returned to reclaim ‘their’ galaxy.
If you read deeply into Halo: Legends, Origins II then the Flood appear to be an ally to an extent-
This may be beneficial and somewhat excites me-there would obviously have to be some common enemy though and this being the first time I’ve heard suggested First Humanity, it would be a good deal and makes the most sense for this scenario.
Being only suppressed by that First Humanity, the Flood would have reason to fear a return and would certainly inquire on the Chief and the joining of whatever Human-Sangheli Alliance is the main militant force for this new trilogy.
Anyone who follows Halo4Follower on YouTube or just Halo 4 in general- there was a leaked video sequence of the chief fighting a transcendent human with force-like and wall transparency powers, that Human may be a remnant of First Humanity.
Makes sense being far more evolved beings on par with Forerunner if not far surpassed in the hundreds of thousands of years since the Halo incident.
What do you guys think?

This is a quality idea… I never thought of the Flood as an ally, but with a Gravemind in control they’re ruthlessly intelligent, and were there bigger threats to them they’d almost certainly make the decision to team up with the UNSC/Sangheili alliance.
I was wondering how the Flood could be added to the plot without following the tired “there was a containment facility, they escaped, hurr durr we must kill the space aliens” formula. Excitement for Halo 4 +1.
Exactly, I’ll be honest as well, I Love the Flood but their role is tired and can be breathed life into most certainly.
An eventual resolution could be made, the Flood may leave the galaxy in exchange for salvation, aside from that-who knows where this trilogy is going…

I remember thinking this was what they might do in Halo 3, only once the rings were stopped there was no reason for them to sustain the alliance. I like the idea of them leaving instead of being wiped out, not least because the Flood seem to be vying with the Daleks for the how-many-times-can-we-pull-some-magical-escape-out-our–Yoink- award. Every other game you kill them all for good, only nope, it turns out there was actually <insert convenient plot device here> and you get to do the exact same thing again.
i think that the flood engineered by precursors is a fantastic idea. As long as flood aren’t main antagonist that would be awesome

Its not really a leak, one of the animators at 343i decided to post that one at his website.
besides taht could be anything
Somebody put tat thing at the end of the concept art trailer together from a load of screen caps, and it seems to fit the description given of the Precursors.
I really hope it isn’t obvious at all as the surprise could make or break the campaign

No other Precursor survived except for The Prisoner of Charum Hakkor and also the Flood weren’t evolved in a Super-advanced ecosystem they were created by the Precursors during the Precursor-Forerunner war as a weapon to use against the Forerunners.

343 have the power to modify canon, if they want to invent a small group of Precursors that survived they can.
Also, while I haven’t read the books, judging on what other people said the Flood’s origins weren’t exactly broken down in a blow-by-blow analysis. All we were told is that the Precursors somehow got and used the Flood as a weapon. Surely it’s possible that an expedition of Precursors went to some galaxy and brought the Flood back, as opposed to them being made from scratch in a laboratory?
I hope it isn’t as obvious as precursors. I want something completely from scratch that will start a whole new branch of canon.
> I hope it isn’t as obvious as precursors. I want something completely from scratch that will start a whole new branch of canon.
The Precursors have been built up in the extended fiction recently for the sole purpose of not coming out of nowhere as the next villains. Why else would they be so heavily hinted at and developed on lately? We know so little about them, I don’t know how anyone could say they don’t want to fight Precursors when they don’t even what that entails yet.
The “Ancient Evil” is the Precursors, it’s almost a given at this point. Let’s wait to find out what fighting them will be like, how they start a new conflict, their role in the plot, implementation into the game, or a sliver of context before we start complaining about enemies we haven’t fought yet.

I’m hoping they don’t actually appear as foot soldiers, that would destroy their mystique, but they’d make great antagonists and maybe boss characters. Kinda like Prophets in previous Halos.

Not a leak actually. That is from Nathan Walpole’s (Bent Llama) animation reel.
Link.

I could see that. Maybe they are commanding other currently unknown forces to do their bidding. Hopefully that doesn’t just mean the Flood though.
if u watched the leaked videos of all of the tirminals you find out their was once a cure for the flood.
> if u watched the leaked videos of all of the tirminals you find out their was once a cure for the flood.
The old enemy of the Forerunners were the humans, the Forerunners won the war against us and de-volved our species so we lost all our technology and such, at the same time they were fighting the Flood but we were the ones who had the cure for it.
Since they de-volved us we couldn’t share the cure with them/they couldn’t steal it.
It’s all in the books good sir
