So it all started off today with me going on to xbox dashboard and inserting my halo reach disk. I loaded up Halo: Reach and an announcement crept up on my screen about halo way point on xbox and how everyone should check it out. I decided that it was about time I checked to see what had changed and so I went to xbox dashboard for the second time today and I clicked on the start up sequence and I was prompted to download a title update for way point. It is not the first time way point has been updated so I didn’t give it much cop in the way of being astounded but after completing the download and milling around for about an hour and a half watching old videos and remembering the good old times that came before and hoping that halo 4 would live up to the expectations. I clicked on the bestiarum and I found much to my surprise a new species that the forerunners new little to nothing about. Immediately I posted this information on my clans website and after much debate was had on our chat box we discovered something else. They have silicon DNA and RNA. Spelled out for you guys they are artificial. And they come with a name: the Caveat.
Here is the relative information and page that I saw this morning: The Caveat
When it was revealed that they are also artificial and that the forerunners knew more about the precursors then they did this species I couldn’t stop thinking about the concept art trailer and the artificial bipedal creatures shown there. Now never in that trailer was the whole machine desplayed but that didn’t stop people within days of the videos release creating a composite image of the machines; a species we now know as the Caveat. Here is that image
The case that the Caveat are also machines (even though it is pretty damn clear that they are) is that the forerunner talk about reproducing individuals of this race. This would be impossible in the truest sense as the individuals mind would be different, unless it was a machine where the data and information stored within its head could be uploaded with the data stream.
Ancient enemy or not the Caveat are more then certainly going to play a major role in Halo 4 and possibly in the next generation of Halo. Now make up your own minds on the case of the Caveat and please use this thread to state your ideas of the history, culture and relevance this species will have come halo 4 and please debate.
Special thanks
All of my clan for debating the relevance of this information and its connotations and information contained within.
LEGEND ST for sourcing the composite image of the bipedal machines we now know as the Caveat.
I saw this and was wondering the same thing, not sure if they could be the enemy but I do agree they will most likely play a pivotal role in the series.
Not gonna lie… When you said a message popped up, i thought you were gonna say that the ancient enemy was Microsoft (You know for constantly trying to advertise the map pack so they can have money)
While pretty good speculation, nothing about these guys has been hinted at in books like Glasslands or the Forerunner saga or the CEA terminals. They very well may be an enemy, much like this new “reformed” Covenant coming into play, I don’t think they are the ancient evil.

I only came to believe this when we started debating in chat box, the forerunners know less about these bipedal mechanoids then they do about the precursors, the ones who they have no clue how their tech works or how to activate it. Pretty good bet with the information available that they are the ancient enemy.

But is it really the Forerunners who do not know about them? It looks like a UNSC report to me. Either way, 343 hasn’t really hinted at these guys and we don’t even know if the creature in the concept art trailer is one of the Caveat.

The bestiarum is done entirely from forerunner point of view and it would be a major coincidence to show a mechanoid race that isn’t the same one that is revealed here. We would end up with two mechanoid races which would confuse most of the audience in the same way two types of locust did in GoW.
quoted from bestiarum front page: “AN ARCHIVE OF SPECIES DOCUMENTED BY FORERUNNER MACHINES.”
Wait a minute…could this Caveat be a sort of introduction? I mean, the definition of caveat is “a warning or caution”. And either way, they have samples of their DNA and all that since they are told not to reproduce them, so they aren’t that unknown. Nothing states they are evil either.
Yes! Someone else noticed it!
I thought I was going crazy when I saw this mysterious information about an unknown creature appear without any announcement on the beastarium. I looked it up on both the major Halo wikis ( http://www.halopedian.com/ and http://halo.wikia.com/ ) and they both returned no more information then the beastarium gave. On the wikis they talked about the beastarium and how it was a book that came with the Halo 3 legendary edition so I stopped wondering, thinking that this creature had been in the beastarium since Halo 3 was released, making it old information with not much relevance to Halo 4.
I’m surprised that more people aren’t talking about it…
