The Ancient Enemy could be (*SPOILERS*)

Before you read, this thread contains spoilers from the Terminal on the CEA mission ‘The Maw’ and should not be read for those who have not yet found it!

If you did decide to read, you may want to watch the Terminal on The maw to freshen your memories.

In the final terminal, 343GS talks of how ‘Once I discovered our plan to save the galaxy succeeded, the Ancient Enemy is unleashed once more.’

This, to me points STRAIGHT towards the Flood. This is because the Flood was held captive and in stasis for 100,000 years, and were unleashed by the Covenant during the events of Combat Evolved.

Then again, maybe the Ancient Enemy is… us… We warred with the Forerunners for years, thousands of years ago, proving to be a danger and a challenge even with the Flood attacking us too. We were beaten and devolved, until a few thousand years later when we take to the stars once more. We still war with one and other and now with the Covenant too. This is shown by the animation of a battle. Finally, we now have the power and knowledge to govern the future of Halo. Whether we use them or destroy them is up to us, so maybe this could explain why we are referred to as ‘the Ancient Enemy’, as we foil the Forerunners plots once more and jeopardize their lives and their plans, like the ancient conflict 100,000 years prior to Halo: Combat Evolved.
Also, in another Terminal, Terminal 6 343GS says that the cure to the Flood was denied to them by their Ancient Enemy, and Ancient Humans were the only race with a cure…

Finally, the Ancient Enemy could be the ‘Promethians’ with their ‘trademark lethality’. however, The Librarian may have to prevent this ‘He’ (who is somehow connected with the Promethians) from unleashing his rage upon us. And apparently, we might even prefer the Flood, so… that’s not good.

So, according to the above paragraph, and the Terminal video the Promethians are still around, if you listen properly to 343GS’ dialogue.

So right there, there’s three possible candidates for the Ancient Enemy.

Or it could be the Timeless One that Cryptum revealed as the one who caused Mendicant Bias to betray the Forerunners and coincidentally was unreleased right as the Flood came back.

This, maybe. More info on the Ancient Enemy will be in Primordium, hopefully.

I always though “he” was the Didact.

While I was wondering about the Ancient Enemy, but I doubt it would be classified to humans. I was thinking Flood might be a good candidate, or something else entirely.

If 343 was still considering humans an Ancient Enemy then he wouldn’t have put so much, well, trust into us I suppose…

Damn, I had to go for a second when I was writing that sentence, and totally forgot what I was going to say.

Thats hillarious

I hope the “Ancient Enemy” that will be in Halo 4-6 is something completely new, or something that will be revealed in the 3rd Forerunner book, hopefully having it released around the same time as Halo 4, so not to spoil anything too early.

Can tell you about the timeless one right now if you want. Got the book early.

I hope it’s not the flood. They were wiped out in Halo 3, it has to be something older and deadlier.

Proof they were wiped out?

Ya from all canon we have seen in the past, the Flood is supposedly extra galactic, which gives weight to the theory that the Precursors are not in fact extinct, but many left the galaxy.

The Flood are by no means wiped out. Only the Flood at the Ark were stopped and killed. There are still Halo Rings and/or Shield Worlds that still have Flood samples. The parasite might no longer be a truly significant threat anymore due to the Gravemind being out of the picture for the moment, but the Flood are by no means gone. They will be coming back eventually.

I’m intrigued by this…

It was stated that there can be multiple graveminds at once. Just wanted to point that out.

I hope it’s Precursors they sound pretty amazing! And also they are very unknown! So that just tells you they sound pretty amazing!

the Human-Forerunner war was over 100K years ago. not merely thousands. and it took us that whole 100k years to take to the stars again.

Installation 05 had to have its gravemind long before installation 04 was forming its proto-gravemind so that multiple graveminds at once thing is true since a proto-gravemind is technically a type of gravemind.
