Now this is just my opinion on why the aiming was changed since the Beta, and I feel it is the only reason that makes sense. Now I don’t know how many of you have the Elite Controller, so those of you that do please chime in and correct me if I’m wrong. But for those that don’t feel like reading this, here ya go…
TL;DR Version: The aiming was changed to force the Elite Controllers on the community.
I, like many of you feel that aiming in the Beta was good, but in the final release things changed. I’ve been reading the topics here, and feeling the same way as most of you. Now when you look at the Beta, that came out in December 2014. Then flash forward to E3 where the Elite Controller was announced, and it was heavily focused around Halo. Now from all of the videos I’ve seen on the Elite controller, it allows you to micro manage everything from sensitivity, to dead zone to trigger pressure. I believe that the aiming was changed not only to widen the skull gap, but also to push those casual players like myself to consider getting the Elite Controller. I was always going to get one because I like the options to customize controls, and having 4 extra buttons. But in the beginning I think MS underestimated the demand for the controller (obviously since you can get one right now), and felt like they needed the extra push to raise the demand that they didn’t feel would be there.
In the end, if this is the case for changing the aiming in Halo 5, the community caught on to the change too fast, and in the end I feel like the aiming will eventually be back to beta standards. I just think that they tried a little too hard to take a game that many people loved, both casual, and competitive, and tried to widen the gap so much that more casual, older players like myself, who at 32 doesn’t have the reaction time that I did when I was 20, and force us to sit it out after the campaign is done.
