I posted a poll a few weeks ago, and given that it wasn’t a very clear poll with my apologies, I’d like to ask the community again of what you think of him.
Instead of a poll, I’ll post some options here and you can select which ones and add your refreshingly honest feelings in regards.
He’s cool. Calm, respectful, more disciplined than other IV’s, and can fight properly. He’s no Chief, but even the original Spartans couldn’t be expected to do that.
None of the Spartans you see in the cuscenes have any meaningful depth to them so I don’t really care. I prefer him to the other losers in his squad but he is nothing amazing himself.

Ex-Army, ordinary marine who made good, lost family in New Phoenix, has gotten copious amounts of screen time - Thorne’s clearly earmarked for a bigger role in future in Spartan Ops, if not further. As long as he doesn’t make any more horrible decisions like ‘HAY LET’S TOUCH THE ALIEN ARTIFACT WHICH KNOCKED OUT ALL THE POWER IN THE SHIP AND DIGITIZED OUR CHIEF ENGINEER’ he’s definitely good in my book.
Besides, you know, when the rest of the Spartan-IVs we’ve seen so far do stuff like test out a close-combat weapon right next to their teammates / break cover in an open area with a shotgun / be Ep. 1-5 Spartan Miller, we don’t really have any other Spartan-IVs of comparable calibre, so I’m really rooting for Thorne at this point.

He’s damn boring. I’m not sure if i’ve seen him emote this entire time.
Though, he’s also pretty dumb. (Let’s touch the weird thing that turns people into orange confetti stuff and eats it.)
Honestly, i’d prefer any other Spartan-IV because they have a bit of life to them. They’re WAY too undisciplined for special op people, and don’t have the charm of the ODST squad.
I think he’s got a good sense of duty and has a lot of humility. I can understand where all the hate is coming from against the Spartan-IVs because to the Halo community, they don’t act like the previous generations of IIs and IIIs. However, many people have to keep in mind that these Spartans used to be normal marines who most have probably lived a secure life with plenty of opportunities and choices. They grew up in a more stable environment and retained “human” emotions. So of course, they are more outspoken, more cocky and more irritating because they are in a way, more human. I’m pretty sure that’s what 343i is trying to get across in these games.
