So I’m pretty green to Halo 5 and warzone. I only have like 11 hours of multiplayer play time logged and my KD ratio is a staggering 1:2 (I know you’re jealous. It’s okay).
But I’d like to share with you guys my favorite strategy currently (because I love warzone so far and I think you’ll probably get a kick out of it listening to how bad my strategy is).
So in warzone because I haven’t quite gotten a playstyle down or figured everything out to its nitty-gritty I currently live for REQ 5. I literally try and survive as long as I can with my AR until REQ 3 and then I get my BR and then I try and get to REQ 5 so I can employ my Saw. It’s my favorite weapon right now because it allows my newbness to shine through perfectly lol. In shoot-outs where I can’t figure out why I’m not winning because I feel like I’m using the same weapon as the guy shooting back at me, the Saw generally solves that issue. No need to worry about if he has some kind of mod on that I don’t, it’s hold-this-trigger-and-let-it-rain style has helped me out on more than a few occasions.
So until I really have the time to figure out how to play Warzone properly and be effective this is my go-to strategy.
I also like to summon vehicles, but I’ve stopped doing that as much because sometimes I feel like I’m just summoning vehicles for the other team (because it gets taken from me quite often still).
As far as the vehicles go I would just try to keep your distance from the enemies as it is pretty simple to “hijack”. In a Ghost keep a safe distance from the enemy while shooting him/her, try to only engage one enemy at a time. Go fast around corners because sneaky players will wait for you to pass and steal your vehicle - speed prevents this.
In a Warthog try to protect your gunner by keeping the enemies in one direction, meaning do not let him get shot from multiple directions. As with Ghost, do not drive close to the enemies, as they will board your vehicle and cause havoc.
Once you are in a tank (or have any power weapon for that matter), you immediately become a target, so never venture out too far from teammates, as your vehicle can get EMP’d (shot with a plasma pistol which will temporarily immobilize your (any) vehicle). If you do get boarded, try to shoot a nearby object and let the splash damage kill the enemy trying to destroy your tank.
Silenced SMG, Longshot BR, radar upgrade. All REQ 5, no need to spend points/waste weapons. Get these and you will be set.
And when using any Ghost keep the front pointed towards the enemy (you take less damage from the front) and keep your distance. Unless they have a power weapon you will win every time. If someone gets too close just boost to safety.
Your K/D is better than mine if your 1.2. I just played my 2nd game and K/D just went below 1.0. There was one guy on the opposite team that went 40.7 KDA last match. Not really a big K/D -Yoink!- personally though I push objectives and so far have won every game.
Don’t worry, you will get better with time. I usually like to play it safe and lock down bases or guard objectives. I hate the REQ system, and for the most part I rarely ever get anything decent. As a result, my go to loadout is Silenced BR, any other BR (occasionally Sentinel) and Advanced Sensors. I would use a DMR if I had one, however I still do not have one at SR56!
Periodically, I see teammates pushing and also try to go rush in, but it usually ends up bad and i immediately regret my decision. The hectic level of warzone coupled with the faster time to kill and heightened mobility make rushing extremely risky. The mini nuke frags don’t help either.
So, as a word of advice, if you wan’t to win battles more often then usually taking the safer route will be triumphant. One major thing that can throw you off is the damn shoulder charge melee; it is such an annoying feature so you better pray to not get hit by it.
Halo 5 has a learning curve that is quite different when compared to last installments. The physics in this game seem way off, not only for vehicles but players as well. Melees seem to be random sometimes especially when both players melee each other head on. A huge frustration is that whenever an enemy lunges with the energy sword and is at low health, and you melee them, it is as if your melee does not register.
Yeah I try to hang back and be conservative as much as I can. But one of my biggest issues is I still tend to panic a bit when like an opposing team player comes out of nowhere and starts shooting at me. I panic and die lol. I need to learn how to compose myself in those situations and effectively attack back.
@ Chemist - My KD ratio isn’t better than yours. I think you misunderstood me. My ratio is 1:2 not 1.2 lol. I wish it was 1.2. That would be sweet. Your KD ratio is better trust me. lol

Ah ok. Well personally I don’t think K/D really matters that much in Warzone anyway. It’s all about trying to win as far as I’m concerned. Obviously you need to learn to fight back but with such a big team to play with it’s easy to find someone to back you up.

Me too, I make it my job. Used to love seeing all my wheelman assists after a good BTB game in previous Halo’s. It’s a slap in the face they don’t count wheelman assists in H5.
