epic sad face for me
Fixing the time-based acceleration is all fine and good, but they make no mention of fixing the lurch that occurs at about 85% joystick deflection, transitioning from the aiming mode into the turning mode. THAT is the acceleration people have been primarily complaining about. The reticle lurches forward without any predictable progression.
No mention of fixing or adjusting the precision aiming zone sensitivity drop, causing all input from the player to be diminished. The reticle simply becomes sluggish and unresponsive to input.
No mention of adjusting bullet magnetism.
Oh well… I had low expectations they would actually fix the aiming mechanics. My fears have been realized.

Pretty sure that’s the dead zone, which you can change in the new update.

The DO mention the transition to turn mode, it’s the outside deadzone. You can now set it so it transitions when you want it and you can adjust how fast the transition is.
This new update should fix the problem if you set your aim accel to anywhere from 0-2 (2 being the Beta Accel) and then setting your outer deadzone to 0% which wont have the acceleration kick in till the joystick is actually pegged.
Now what i was really hoping for was the ability to increase the turn speed! Give us the option to crank up our turn speed to like 20 or something. Other FPS games give us this option I’m not sure why the Halo franchise refuses to.
Sounds like great news, and people were worried they wouldn’t touch on deadzones at all. I’m glad they included what the acceleration was in beta. I can’t wait to get my original Halo feel aiming back. It’s been a struggle for long enough, and I may just get back into Arena more when I get comfortable in my aiming.
Can’t wait to fine tune my controls to make it feel like past Halo games. Been struggling so much with my aim as it is right now and it’ll be a breath of fresh air to go back to my roots.
It would be nice of they could just tell us what the settings were for the older Halo games so we could just set everything to them. Yes I know they told us the H5 Beta, but nothing to do with the inner and outer dead zones though.
I think it’s great were getting this, but it would just be nice if they just told us or had a setting “Halo x aiming system” or something you know. Now I get to mess with this crap for hours upon end just so I can try to get the aiming back to what the older Halos were. I don’t mind the newer aiming but hate it when It comes to CQC.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
They’re actually going over it right now.
I just hope it’ll fix the slow turn. It’ll be fun to test out.

This is right.
Halo 1/2 and 3 to some extent had such a smooth transition from aiming to turning, as it was basically the same, where 5 seems to have aiming when you first start, then when you aim further out it accelerates and you turn.

What changes are you going to make to make it feel more classic halo? I’m interested to try and capture that feeling myself, but I’m not sure how to achieve it. thanks for the advice!
