Does its effective range compete with precision weapons? Yes
Does it take much skill to use? No.
Halo has been risk vs. reward arena shooter with long kill times(other than Halo: CE) based on who more skillfully shot the other. The skill gap partially comes from Average Kill Time vs. Perfect Kill Time. and which player is better at hitting the Perfect Kill Time consistently. The Perfect Kill Time and Average Kill Time are too close together on the AR, which are far too low begin with. AND, it has a long effective range?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy there is a gun for newer players to pick up and have fun with, but I shouldn’t have to get a perfect four-shot on someone medium/close distance who is just spraying in my direction, or someone who can easily clean me up at a long distance without me having any chance to fight back.
Increase it’s spread, increase the Perfect Kill Time by a quarter of a second, and decrease its scope OR effective range. BALANCED. It will still shred upclose only losing to the SMG, while still giving other players a chance to fight back.

I completely agree with you. A lot of people don’t seem to get that the balancing of the AR/SMG is the fact that it easy to use not because it can kill as good.
If you are stating the assault rifle doesn’t take much skill to use, then other weapons don’t either. I’m glad they finally made the assault rifle more commonly used instead of the BR or any other weapon that seems to be OP’d right now. Now, as for the long run, I hope to see progress through the balancing of all weapons, that includes the DMR.

I’m confused at your confusion.
I’m also confused why you are saying the BR or DMR is OP? They take multiple shots to someone’s head to kill them, whilst they are moving. They take more skill to use, although there is a much larger margin for error: risk vs. reward and Average Kill Time vs. Perfect Kill Time is higher and with a large difference between the two.

The only two or three weapons that take any time or skill to use are the magnum, DMR and the Sniper…Everythng else is spray and pray…!
If you are in a close battle the assulte riffle should win. But the distance it mows you down need to be nerfed. As for the smg it needs to be removed and go back to dual wielding that is a part of halo.

if i get killed by the magnum, it’s probably spraying. The BR and DMR are basically the same thing
i know the AR is better than it has ever been, but i really like it. it’s nice to spawn in and have a chance killing people who are better than our team with all the good guns.

You’d be wrong. If you’re getting hit at range, you’re being hit by a man who is using very short controlled bursts. If you have a precision weapon and you are getting killed by an AR within the ideal range for a BR/DMR, then you’re obviously the lesser skilled between the two. If you are trying to use a DMR/BR in mid to close range which is the ideal zone for the AR, then you done -Yoinked!- up.
You can’t just ADS or aim in a general direction and spray with an AR, that’s 1: Suicide, and 2: Not useful at all because you won’t hit anything!
My main gripe is that it takes a lot of the close range melee and sticky battles out of the game, along with what OP said that it’s too effective for its ease of use. A lot of deaths in this game are either sloppy AR spray kills, or long range rifle kills, which is a bit too generic for Halo imo.

That’s not true either, I can account for 32 kills that were very precise SMG kills while using the ADS Stabilizing/Hover as the opposing team mindlessly charged through a bottleneck into my teammate and I… and we were at a disadvantage 2v3.

Compared to the unique amount of kills you could get in the past halos, that seems kinda generic imo. Like idk I’d rather die to some duel wielding dude spamming in H2 rather than someone who just spawned with an AR in this game, but that’s just me.
I agree with you op except I would say the gap on kill times is tiny across the board. The SMG is actually skillful to use but I’m only talking about how difficult it is to land your shots not if its op or it kills to fast.
Besides the SMG maybe; in scale to the smg the dmr/ar/br needs nerf across the board
Im on the fence with the assault rifle. On one hand I like that it is actually relevant. Its useful and you don’t feel underpowered from the start. On the other it pops shields way to fast in my opinion.

Are we playing the same game? I’ve killed the sniper standing on an opposite platform of Empire by ADSing with the Assault rifle (granted he wasn’t looking at me until I hit him with the first bullet), he tried to take cover but the laser like accuracy of it hit him with EVERY. SINGLE. SHOT while he was trying to get out of the opening, he got roached at the same speed as if I was in his face, maybe a a quarter of a second slower.
So yeah…it’s NOT suicide, and it most certainly will hit SOMETHING. You can even walk around in ADS with the assault rifle and immediately hit someone in line of sight at pretty much any range on the two current beta maps provided you aim fast enough.
