A Halo 4 Launch event taking place hours before release that could be streamed both online or even on the Xbox 360 dashboard that would feature a tournament style gameplay environment with live commentary over the gameplay as well as explanations of the new game mechanics by the 343i developers themselves.
How it will work:
The top 4 teams from MLG’s Winter Championship or whichever top teams can make it will be flown out to a certain location where the tournament will be held. Round robin style play will seed the teams for a double elimination tournament. Various settings for the gametypes will be hand picked by 343i to show off the amazing competitive merit of Halo 4!
What it will do:
This will not only bridge the gap between the competitive and casual communities, it will give new players and old players alike a certain familiarity with the game upon picking up their copies at midnight, so they can hop right into the amazing, jaw dropping experience that is Halo Infinity.
The tournament will build massive amounts of hype around the once skeptical design changes made by 343i, and will settle those competitive nerves that have been rattled by the somewhat controversial changes and additions to the Halo series.
Please tweet this amazing idea to @Xbox, @HaloWaypoint, @DavidEllis, @bsangel, and whoever else you might think would be interested!
I’ll continue to update this post as more ideas flow into my head <3

> The game will be finished by then, so what’s the point of this? Why can’t the pro teams just pick up a copy at their hometown and play online?
It’s to build up the excitement for Halo 4, show off the games and maps, and give people a general sense of how the game plays, some common strategies, and what is possible with the new loadouts, perks, weapons, and armor abilities prior to release so that immediately upon starting up Halo Infinity, you’re able to get right into the action with your own personal playstyle!

Yeah, but what good will that do? They can;t fix any of the issues.
The purpose is not to fix issues but to build hype right before release. The pros should be testing the game now. I do think the tournament is a great idea though.
Sounds like a good idea to me, and it gives the folks at the launch party something to do while waiting to play the game
As someone who plays both casual and MLG settings I support this, we are after all the “Halo Community” we shouldn’t separate ourselves from each other.
I challenge the casual community to come spend some time in our Playlist on Reach, sure the settings are different and the games are fast paced but there is a lot to be learned if you are into that kind of thing
Maybe 343i could do a community event in the MLG playlist (whether that be in Reach or when one comes to be after the Halo 4 launch)
Always looking for new players who just want a little bit more then trolling BTB for montage clips

Seems like the only good it will do is give people a live stream to simply watch Halo 4 on.
By that time, there will likely be tons of H4 gameplay videos up anyway (early releases, a few other instances).
If 343 really wanted to do something, they’d fly those pros over there right now and allow them to extensively test gameplay as it is this very second.
Not so they could change gameplay, but so they could make suggestions as to what to include, and what not to include in final playlists.
I think you should clearly state this is your idea at the beginning of the thread title and at the beginning of the post. Though to be frank the game is definitely going to in the hands of the public a day before release so there’ll be streams all over ustream and justin.tv like there were for Reach. Perhaps earlier if it’s leaked.
For those complaining about issues still I think you need some perspective at how far along the game could possibly be at this point.
Think back to halo 3.
Halo 3 was announced to be at ZBR stage in the bulletin 6/29/07
Halo 3 was announced to be at Gold on 8/29/07
Halo 3 2as release approximately 1 month after going Gold
Now work back for H4
Assuming a December 11, 2012 release
Gold at November 11, 2012
ZBR at September 11, 2012
That is only 7 months away. Out of a 24-36 month dev cycle that is not much left. I bet much of the game decisions are solidified by now
Reach’s beta wa April/May with a September release (4-5months before) we are not far off that window now for H4. I don’t expect much is changing still in the area of core gameplay decisions
